AWARD-WINNING AMADEUS CONTINUES THEATRE TUSCALOOSA’S SEASON

TUSCALOOSA – Theatre Tuscaloosa’s season continues with AMADEUS by Peter Shaffer. Paul K. Looney directs this provocative drama that weaves a confrontation between mediocrity and genius. Pious composer Antonio Salieri (played by Jeff Wilson) sets out to destroy his rival, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart (played by Taylor Bridges), a foul mouthed, graceless libertine who effortlessly hears the music of the spheres.

AMADEUS begins performances February 23 and runs through March 4, 2007 at the Bean-Brown Theatre on the campus of Shelton State Community College at 9500 Old Greensboro Road in Tuscaloosa.

Other performers featured in this production include Sara Carroll, Terry Olivet, George Thagard, Adam Miller, Alex Perkins, Chris Ingram, Marla Donour, Veronica Lanphere, Bruce Skelton, John Durham, Glen Cain, Wright Gatewood, Jacob Hougaboom, Glen Johnson, Susie Johnson, and Alicia Castile.

When Amadeus premiered on Broadway in 1980, the play garnered an Evening Standard Drama Award, Theatre Critics Award, Tony Award, and Outer Critics Circle Award. Playwright Peter Shaffer’s other award-winning works include “Equus,” “Black Comedy,” “Five Finger Exercise,” “Lettice and Lovage,” and more. He also wrote the screenplays for both “Equus” and “Amadeus” (1985 Academy Award for Best Motion Picture).

To create the sumptuous period setting, director Paul Looney is joined by scenic designer Andy Fitch, costume designer Jeanette Waterman, lighting designer Erin Hisey, and stage manager Amanda Manos.
