2015 Recipient

The 2015 Shasta Piping Society Pipe Scholarship has been awarded to Bradon Hoover of La Mesa, California.

A 10th grader at Helix Charter High School, Bradon plays bagpipes in the school band. He's been playing pipes owned by the school and did not have a set of his own. Bradon wrote a great essay and his instructor, Ross Naismith, provided a stellar recommendation.

On the strength of his application and interests, Bradon was awarded a refurbished set of Great Highland Bagpipes made of African Blackwood by James Begg of Glasgow, Scotland. Included in the award was a pipe case, reeds, bag, cover and cords, and McCallum chanter provided by the Shasta Piping Society.

Ted Anderson of Piper's Supply provided real hemp and cobbler's and beeswax to keep the drones in top shape, and Jim McGillivray of McGillivray Piping provided a copy of his book Rhythmic Fingerwork to help Bradon get a solid foundation for his future piping career. We hope this award helps Bradon achieve his musical goals and provides many years of enjoyment for him and his family.

Congratulations Bradon!!!
