2016 Prize Pipe

SHASTA PIPING SOCIETY

PRIZE PIPE WINNER IS BRIAN TURNER

Brian Turner of Key Largo, Florida returned to his home state and captured the Shasta Piping Society Prize Pipe at the April 9th amateur competition in Redding, California. Brian played the David Glen arrangements of 'I Got a Kiss of the King's Hand" and "The Prince's Salute". The prize pipe was an early 20th century set of David Glen & Son cocuswood and ivory drones. Each competitor was required to play the urlar and first variations of two tunes of their own choosing, one after the other, from the David Glen collections of music.

The amateur prize pipe competition was developed last year as an effort to advertise the Shasta Piping Society pipe scholarship for K-12th grade students in financial need. Another goal of the SPS is to sponsor recitals of music arrangements not commonly heard on the competitive stage.
