Dear Friends,
We are excited to announce that we will perform __________ for Shakespeare Camp this summer. Our camp is open to actors age 10 and above, with the stipulation that all younger actors have enough self-control to be able to handle 2 hours cooped up behind a small stage. Roles which contain more than 100 lines are open to those 14 years and older.
This year we will have auditions for parts (date) ____________ at (place) _____________. Auditions are not required to participate, but if you would like a larger or popular role, auditions will make a difference. You will be judged on overall acting ability, ability to project your voice, ability to memorize, and maturity. It is important to get a copy of the script and memorize your part in preparation for auditions. If you have questions about which lines to memorize for a certain role, please email me.
Whether you attend auditions or not, I need you to fill out the Shakespeare Camp Registration Form (below) and return it to me by email or mail. There is a place for parents to sign, and if you are sending this by email, the parents can simply type their names. We hope to be able to rent an auditorium again, so camp will cost $20 per family to cover rent and other miscellaneous costs. You will need to bring the $20 participation fee to auditions or send it to me by mail by (date) _________.
Our plan is to have 4 days of camp (date) _________ with the performance on Friday, (date) __________. The first two days will be devoted to workshopping individual scenes and may take place at my house. Wednesday and Thursday we will run through the play on the actual stage. As you can see from this schedule (and many of you know by experience) it is imperative that everyone who signs up for Shakespeare Camp commit to memorizing their lines before camp begins. I will be asking parents to sign an agreement that they will supervise preparation in two stages: half the lines memorized by (date) _________ and the second half memorized by (date) _________.
Please let me know if you can help with our camp. We need 1-3 mothers to help with coaching, 1-2 mothers to help with set, 1 mother to supervise make-up, 2 moms to volunteer to babysit the children of coaches, and 2 mothers to plan the reception after the play. It would be really neat if there was a mother who would like to document the camp with photographs and video (but this is just a dream of mine and not necessary for camp.)
I am attaching files for the script and the audition assignments. The registration form is below. Thank you for your attention to these details in advance. It will be of the greatest help in organizing our production.
Fare thee well,
Shakespeare Camp Registration
