Connect Help

Connect Help

The link between SB and the scope is established from the Connect tab. This tab contains 4 input fields for the IP address and 1 for the port number. These fields define the IP address and port number of the WiFi adapter attached to the scope. The default IP address of the SkyFi, for example, is 10.0.0.1, and the default port is 4030. IP Address and Port information is specific to the WiFi/RS232 adapter attached to the scope. Adapter documentation will specify the default IP Address and Port number. In addition, most adapters are configured through an embedded device web page that can be displayed and modified with a web browser. See the adapter documentation for configuration procedures. Since some adapters can be reconfigured from the default address and port, to user specified address and port, the configuration web page will be the best source of adapter IP information for entering into the SB Connect tab.

Connect to Scope

Once the appropriate information has been input, tapping the Connect to Scope button will attempt to establish a WiFI link between SB and the scope. A message below the button will confirm the connection or warn of a failed attempt.

Return to Keypad

After completing the WiFi connection, tapping the Return to Keypad button will flip back to the Keypad tab.

Tips:

• The most likely reason for a failed attempt is that the iOS device's WiFi has not joined the scope's network. Check the device's Settings > Wi-Fi.

• Unreliable or erratic connectivity may result from poor location of the WiFi adapter, or interference from nearby electromagnetic sources or other WiFi networks. Reconfiguring the adapter to a different channel may help.

Default Menu

At initial installation, SB uses a Default Menu. This is the menu published by Meade for the LX200GPS, and may not match the internal scope menu of other scope models or firmware versions. While many commands may remain the same, it is possible that mismatched menus can produce unexpected results. In most cases it will be important to import the menu directly from the scope to avoid potential conflicts.

Imported Menu

On first connection to a scope, an alert box will prompt the user to either use the default menu or import the menu from the scope. In almost all cases, importing the menu will be the appropriate response. Importing walks through the scope's entire menu tree and can take a couple of minutes. Once the Default or Import decision is made, and import is complete if chosen, the menu will be stored in user defaults and used from then on. If, on a future connection, SB detects a change in scope model or firmware version, it will again prompt the user to use the Default menu, the existing imported menu, or to import the menu from the scope.

The current menu can also be switched between Default and Imported in More > Preferences.

Note: Reset ScopeBoss in Preferences will reset the current and stored menu to the Default menu.
