MLK Observance Committee
In the spirit of Dr. King’s legacy, the Martin Luther King Observance Committee of Morris County is pleased to announce its King scholarship program to assist high school graduates from the class of 2021 in their pursuit of college or postsecondary education. The scholarship program’s primary goal is to support the educational attainment of students dedicated to the legacy of Dr. King as demonstrated through a track record of community service and a future career commitment of service to others, including striving for the elimination of poverty, discrimination and social injustice. Depending upon the availability of funds, scholarship amounts may vary up to $1,500 or more.
The eligibility criteria are:
• Demonstrated commitment to the vision and ideals of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
• An outstanding track record of community service
• Residence or established connection with community in Morris County
• A cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale
• Graduation from an accredited high school in 2021
• Acceptance by an institution of post-secondary education
The application deadline is Friday, April 23, 2021. It is anticipated that the scholarship recipients will be announced in early June in time for the fall 2021 semester. Application available online. Must currently be enrolled as a high school or college/university student within the United States or Canada.
Must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.0 (or the equivalent).
Must be a citizen of, permanent resident of, or hold a valid student visa in the United States or Canada.
Must have designed an innovative project that makes a difference in the lives of others (This could be a website, series of blogs, an app, fundraising event, etc.)
Must submit an essay describing the goal of the particular project and provide supporting documentation.
The essay, idea, or creation must be the applicant’s original work.
