A more relaxing weekend that the previous few outings with only 1 rally this weekend, I accompanied Jason Straker in his Escort on the Danum Rally, which started and finished from Sherburn Aero Club, near Selby.
The first special test was a lap around the Mintex Proving Ground which was exceptional fun and we were 6th fastest after some sideways action! On the section prior to petrol the route handout consisted of 8 digit grid references written out in word form which were avoids! After the initial dismay, I got on with the job and we set the fastest time on the section by 5 seconds! We cleaned the penultimate timed to the second section and then it was a short drive back to the Mintex ground for a special test in the opposite direction. After losing a timely 3 minutes on a standard section early on in the second half (due to some misguided spectators) we know that the best we could do would be a top ten placing. So we had some fun around the proving ground with a few additional pirouettes for show!
We finished 6th overall on what was a challenging plot and bash event.
