Dr. Samah A. M. Ghanem was born in Beirut, Lebanon in 29th of May 1979. Lived in Lebanon, Algeria, Tunisia, Jordan, Palestine, Ireland, Germany, Denmark, France, Portugal, Sweden, and Spain. Travelled across many other places and such experience and diversification defined Dr. Ghanem on the human level.

On the professional level, Dr. Ghanem experience in research and industry spans 20 years of international diversification.

Ghanem holds Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering (Telecommunications) with highest distinction (Honors) under MAP-Tele joint doctoral program in Portugal, holds M.Sc. degree in scientific computing/ computer and engineering, from BZU, in Palestine with co-supervised master thesis at the University of Duisburg-Essen in Germany, and a BS. degree in Electrical Engineering from ANNU, Palestine since 2001.

Between July 2016 to Feb 2017 Dr. Ghanem has initiated and collaborated solely with Dr. Muriel Médard, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, USA in Information Theory and Network coding for Multi-hop Networks to which a 5G novel energy efficient capacity achieving bandwidth efficient piggybacking codes for network coding transmission scheme is proposed.

Between 2015- May 2017 Dr. Ghanem supervised the full PhD thesis of PhD student Alaa Eddine Gharsellaoui in 5G heterogeneous/satellite networks with title network coding strategies for satellite with Dr. Daniele Tarchi, University of Bologna, Italy.

Ghanem was a consultant and senior research scientist in 5G RRM with Huawei, Stockholm, Sweden between July 2016-Sept-2016. Proposed novel solution to Traffic Steering for RRM in exceptional time.

Between Sept. 2015- Mar 2016, Ghanem was senior researcher under SPEED-5G EU project that aims to 5G RRM: Data-driven MAC with FBMC at IT-Aveiro. During this period: Initiated research efforts under SWARM project, via leading and supervising 4th year PhD student Victor Sucasas (U. Surrey, UK/ IT, Aveiro, Portugal) and mentoring him in one research direction, that aims to future underwater acoustic communications with novel transmission schemes for SWARMs with a certian topology that includes a relay.

Between Feb. 2016-July 2015 Ghanem was a senior researcher under SMART manufacturing project for designing future smarter systems. During which: proposed novel models and algorithms that provide solutions to some known challenging problems in manufacturing.

Between 2014-2015, Dr. Ghanem was a postdoctoral researcher at Eurecom, Sophia Antipolis, France with HUAWEI, IMAGE-NET, HARP EU FP7 and other projects that aim to 5G wireless networks with higher data rates via interference management in small cells and massive MIMOs and D2D communications. Jointly with Dr. Laura Cottatellucci (EURECOM, France), they proposed novel protocol for FDD Massive MIMO with D2D, a protocol that allows for reduction of the instantaneous CSI feedback.

Ghanem has also proposed a novel scheme of two way channel estimation process for DL from UL in cellular communications applied to multicell cooperative frameworks - Network Distributed MIMO - which allows for reduced CSI feedback in future communications systems, and to a timely designs for precoding and power allocation.

Dr. Ghanem was a researcher at IEETA, University of Aveiro, and at the Institute of Telecommunications, IT, FCUP, FEUP, University of Porto, both in Portugal between Nov, 2009 to Dec, 2013 under several projects. The research considered the Analysis, Modeling, Design, and Optimization of Future Telecommunications Systems.

Dr. Ghanem has also proposed novel models, transmission schemes in conjunction with network coding and precoding, and new designs for higher data rates and delay tolerant future communication systems.

Dr. Ghanem major contribution is the ''Generalized Multiuser I-MMSE''. In such contribution, fundamental relations that rely on the intersections between information theory and estimation theory to multiuser communications are generalized. In particular, Dr. Ghanem generalized the I-MMSE by Guo, Shamai, and Verdu to multiuser setups, a contribution of particular relevance to identifying transmission schemes with interference awareness, and to other research areas in statistical signal processing (Time-Frequency tools) and artificial intelligence that can capitalize on such tools. Besides, Ghanem proved such relations for MAC Gaussian channels, allowing for novel interpretation of the interference and to a generalized I-MMSE that is explicitly explained via the successive interference cancellation of the decoding to be a lookahead/lookback I-MMSE and proved such relation for network coded flows over noisy networks, allowing for topology-aware future designs adapted to the network level.

Dr. Ghanem had on the other hand contribution in the mechanical engineering research of smart materials "shape memory alloys" modeling and control. Published master thesis book in the control of the SMA, two book chapters under Springer: one is related to adaptive control, and another is related to fundamental limits and optimal designs of MAC Poisson Channel, this work received the best paper award under ICCST, San Fransisco, USA, 2011.

Dr. Ghanem had extensive industrial experience in the cellular field of communications working on Ericsson systems 2G, 2.5G, and 3G RANs and NMSs for operator and provider for more than seven years, during which: Built the Quality Plan and the Software Integration and Verification Quality Plan for the NEO09 on top of the OSS-RC software development project at Ericsson LMI, and was assigned to build the Strategic Plan for the Operations Excellence department within Ericsson LMI-PDU OSS Research and Development Center in Ireland. Ghanem was also a senior OSS engineer and a senior RAN performance engineer focusing on business objects and defining network KPIs and KQIs. Ghanem proposed and supervised a set of projects and was involved with several projects which are oriented to technical research as well as managerial and business oriented. In addition, Ghanem has experience in software engineering development process, practical six sigma, and business intelligence IT frameworks.

Dr. Ghanem was a visiting researcher at APNET group, Aalborg University, Denmark, in 2012 and a visiting researcher at Control and Dynamics group, Duisburg-Essen University, Germany, in 2008.

Dr. Ghanem is an IEEE Senior Member, IEEE ComSoc member, IEEE ITSoc member, IAENG member, and JAENG member.
