Hello Students,
In this project we will be working to apply the knowledge you gained from learning about volumes, surface areas, and perimeters to work. Your group will be responsible for collecting data, and duplicating our garden at another site.
When you've completed all the tasks you should have a Garden package that can be shared with other schools so that can duplicate our entire garden at their school. This package will let the school how much soil, wood, and plants are necessary and how much it will all cost.
Goal:
Your goal is to duplicate our amazing garden at any site by collecting data, and making a list of how much soil, wood, etc will be needed to make another school's garden grow.
Task 1: Creating Your Numbers
In this task you will be working to create a spreadsheet that will house all of the measurements taken at the garden. Your spreadsheet should include the following:
Sheet 1
Sheet 2
Rename Sheet 1 (Measurements)
Left Column Box1-Box20
Top Row: Length, Width, Height, Area, Volume
Equation Editor for Volume
Rename Sheet 2 (Item/Cost List)
Item Description
Item Number
Quantity
Unit Price
Sub Total
Total
Tax %
Task 2: Collecting Data
Using the table and formulas that you've created, work with your team to complete the both sheets. Please make sure that you convert your measurements appropriately. Your area should be in square feet, and volume should be in cubic yards.
Task 3: How much will your garden cost?
In this task you will be responsible for determining what items you will need to build your garden, i.e. the wood, plants, nails, types of plants, etc.
At the end of this task you will have completed the following items:
Create an Numbers spreadsheet that includes: item number (sku), name of the part, description, quantity, and price. Note: your Numbers should include the total price including tax. Your spreadsheet should also do Numbers generated calculations as shown in class.
In your Numbers spread sheet also include tools necessary to complete your garden.
Upload your Numbers spreadsheet to your Keynote.
Task 4: Packaging & Presenting Your Product
In this task you will be responsible for ensuring that the numbers are on your spreadsheet are correct. In addition, you will be required to write a letter that gives instructions on what is included in the package. Your letter should be written in a professional manner. Your letter should include the following:
Formal Heading (Search online if you don't know what this should look like)
Introduction paragraph about your team
Explanation of your process. What you did? How you did it?
What you have included in your spreadsheet and how to use it.
After completing the task, you will be required to trade and edit papers with at least two other groups.
Task 5: Comparing Costs
This task will require you to research the actual costs for produce to get into our grocery stores and compare it to the actual costs to grow it in our garden.
After you have completed your research, you will need to collaborate with your team to present your findings and make a case either growing a garden or just buying items from the grocery store.
Bonus: Surprise Task
In this Bonus Task, we will be collaborating with the Culinary Arts Program to see what we can cook up :)
