Hello Students,
In this project we will be working to apply the knowledge you gained from learning about volumes, surface areas, and perimeters to work. You and your group will be responsible for designing and building a garden from beginning to end. You will be responsible for starting a company, choosing a location, staying within budget, and executing your plan.
Goal:
Your goal is to build a garden while staying within budget so that we may put your learning to work. In addition, we will be working to build a garden that is sustainable.
Task 1: Starting YOUR company
In this task you will work to meet the following benchmarks:
Go to your Keynote App and start building your future pitch that you will give to your classmates.
Assign each person a role in the company. i.e. Project Manager, Web Development, Mathematician (x2)
Create a name for your company.
Decide on a slogan for your company.
Create a page on the Keynote stating the information from steps 2-4.
Task 2: Location, LOCATION, LOCATION!
Like all things in construction there are three important rules... location, LOCATION, LOCATION! You will work with your team to find an appropriate location for your garden.
Here are a few things to consider:
Is your garden in a location where it can grow without being disturbed?
Will it get enough sunlight?
At the end of this task you should have completed the following benchmarks:
Find a location and have a few sentences to explain why you chose your location.
Decide the area and perimeter of your garden. Please include a sketch, picture, and mathematical breakdown of your garden.
Update your Keynote page with the information from this task.
Task 3: How much will your garden cost?
In this task you will be responsible for determining what items you will need to build your garden, i.e. the wood, plants, nails, types of plants, etc.
At the end of this task you should will have completed the following benchmarks:
Create an Numbers spreadsheet that includes: item number (sku), name of the part, description, quantity, and price. Note: your Numbers should include the total price including tax. Your spreadsheet should also do Numbers generated calculations as shown in class.
In your Numbers spread sheet also include tools necessary to complete your garden.
Upload your Numbers spreadsheet to your Keynote.
Task 4: Selling your product
In this task you will be responsible for creating a presentation based on your Keynote. You will need to build a presentation using PowerPoint or iMovie/Windows Movie Maker, or using ActivInspire to build a presentation to sell your product. This could be a presentation, or a commercial. Your presentation should include the specifics from the earlier tasks.
Please submit your presentation to Dropittome.com/salamanca
Task 5: Selecting a Winner!
We will hold a vote to determine whose project has won!
