It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Russell George Briscoe, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend on Monday, May 26, 2025, at the age of 90.Russ was born in Calgary, AB, on April 7, 1935. He grew up and lived in Calgary and Carsland AB. In 1957 he married Rita. Russ worked as a plumber, gasfitter, and steamfitter, and worked at SAIT as an instructor for many years. He enjoyed camping with family, and the many friends he met while working at SAIT. He loved reading western books, and watching westerns and comedy shows on TV. Russ taught his four girls to change a tire, fish, and fix the workings in the back of a toilet. He could often be found working on a new woodworking project or just fiddling around fixing something in the garage. Family and neighbours always said, “If you need a weird little part for something, ask Russ to look in the garage,” he usually found it or could make something up that would work. Russ is survived by his four daughters, Cindy Briscoe of Calgary, AB, Sandra Oostlander (Steve) of Bassano, AB, Brenda Foster (Craig) of Kelowna, BC, and Rhonda Griffiths (Bill) of Calgary, AB; ten grandchildren, Tyrel, Mathew, Mandy, Landon, Trisha, Jodie, Garrett, Curtis, Chelsea, and Joshua; and nineteen great-grandchildren. Russ was predeceased by his wife Rita; parents, Les and Edna Briscoe; and his brothers Earl and Peter. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Russ’s family here. October 23, 1945 — Edmonton, Alberta - June 22, 2025 — Calgary, Alberta
Ellen “Lenny” Chan, beloved wife of Daniel Yatping Chan, of Calgary, AB, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2025, at the age of 79 years. Ellen was born in Edmonton, AB, on October 23, 1945, and the youngest of six siblings. She graduated from St. Joe's High School and began working at NAIT. In 1972, she relocated to SAIT health services in Calgary where she met her lifelong friends, Margret, Pat, Sylvia, Janice, and Max. Max's reputation as a matchmaker proved true when she introduced Ellen to Dan and they got married on December 21, 1977. She excelled at playing Bridge and loved to do crossword puzzles. She also liked to travel, like the time she went to Las Vegas and from the plane, saw the clock that read 120. She prayed that it was 120 PM but instead it was 120 °F. In the Maritimes, she immediately loved Mahone Bay, where she shopped at “Suttles and Sea Winds” and asked to buy a flannelette nightgown in ninety-degree heat. We often travelled to Vancouver Island, BC, on the ferry and Ellen would spend the time having a coffee before landing in Nanaimo, BC. Once on a local trip to the Royal Tyrrell Museum, she noticed a highway sign that said “Ferry” and said “good, I’m going to have a coffee”. We waited to see the expression on her face as we loaded onto a two-car barge for crossing the South Saskatchewan river. Ellen had a real passion for hockey. She was a SCREAMING fan at Flames games and would scream “help him; help him; help him” at the top of her lungs. But the highlight of her hockey life came when the manager of radio station CFR knew of Ellen's hockey passion and asked her to appear on CFR's hockey talk radio show that included a panel of knowledgeable hockey personnel. Ellen is very gutsy and said “yes”. She did so well, they had her do an encore. She also had a passion for roses. Until recently, we were able to spend most of our winters in Palm Desert, California. Ellen had a rose garden that she cherished. She measured the diameters of each bloom that came into the house. Her record was a “Peace” rose that was 6.5 inches—her pride and joy. Ellen had a soft side too. She loved young children and especially babies. On one occasion, her soft side came to light. Her one remaining sister, Penny from Toronto, ON, visited Ellen in Palm Desert. When it came time for Penny to leave back to Toronto, at the airport, Ellen started sobbing when they were saying their goodbyes. This caught the attention of two security policemen who came over and told Ellen, “It’s alright, she'll be back soon”, to which Ellen replied, “that's why I'm crying”. Sadly, in early 2021, Ellen began to show signs of dementia, which prompted us to sell our winter home in Palm Desert. We sought professional help for treatment for Ellen; the diagnosis was that she had complex dementia. There are very few LTC's that handled “complex” dementia, but in November 2022, we were very, very, fortunate to be placed in Bethany Riverview. The care given to Ellen by the doctors, nurses, aides, and other professionals was compassionate, complete, and immediate. Ellen's end of life was peaceful and painless. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Ellen’s family here. In living memory of Ellen Chan, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Chapel of the Bells, 2720 Centre Street North, Calgary, AB T2E 2V6, Telephone: 403-276-2296. "I have been very fortunate in my life, and what I am most proud of is what I have been able to give back. You must always give something back"
Martin Cohos' extraordinary life came to an end on January 10, 2025 while on what turned out to be, the last of his many world adventures. Martin was born on March 23, 1935 to Abe and Rose Cohos, immigrants from Romania who had settled in Montreal's Plateau neighbourhood. The youngest of four children, Martin grew up in a traditional Jewish household, speaking only Yiddish until starting grade school. At the age of 16, he was accepted to McGill and became the first member of his family to attend university. Martin entered the Faculty of Engineering but quickly realized that his true passion was architecture – a profession his father could not imagine even existed. Writing Martin's obituary today, while overlooking downtown Calgary, we are impressed at how his legacy lives on in the many towers we see in the dynamic skyline. Martin moved to Calgary in 1958 immediately after graduation. After a summer job in Western Canada, he had fallen love with the mountains and he saw Calgary as the land of opportunity. Cohos Evamy Partners was founded in 1960 in a closet. Over the decades it blossomed into what is now Dialog Design. He continued to lead the trajectory of the firm until 1997, when he retired. Borrowing from the architectural lexicon, this was only one of many angles that fueled his passions. He would often tell his children, that it was important to live life in contrast, not as a constant. This credo led him on many adventures and to accomplish many goals, including treks in Nepal, completing a marathon for his 60th birthday, 75 push ups when he turned 75 (he blew past that goal and did 100), international adventures with his grandsons and cycling trips with the Buck Point Cycle and Single Malt Club. Scotch factored in many of his life events. He was always interested and interesting. He spoke softly and deliberately, his blue eyes always twinkling, and everyone would lean in to hear his perspective about any number of a broad range of topics. The best seat at any dinner party was beside Martin. He was a modern pied piper who always looked forward and always had his list of current goals. He collected people throughout his life, no matter where he was, leaving everyone with their own special Marty memory. Giving back to the community was essential to his values and beliefs. Countless causes piqued his interest over his lifetime. He was so proud of his 30-year full-time volunteer gig which he called his "post-professional career". Sometimes it was the project and sometimes it was people; no matter what, he jumped in with both feet. His legacy lives on at SAIT, Heritage Park, Temple B'Nai Tikvah and many other projects in Calgary and beyond. Some of the other organizations he advised include The Banff Centre, The Glenbow Museum, Pier 21 in Halifax, and the Calgary Child Advocacy Centre (now Luna). Martin received many accolades in recognition of his accomplishments and philanthropic contributions. Yet, he described himself as the son of an immigrant tailor; an ordinary man who led an extraordinary life. Surprisingly, for an architect and to the amusement of many, he could not pronounce the word "parallel". Martin's sense of adventure, passion for his beliefs, and his humorous and mischievous spirit will be remembered by all who knew him. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Elizabeth and her son Josh; and his children Peter (Kim) and their sons Ben (Alix) and Stephen (Janelle); Elizabeth (Lorne) and their sons Zac and Seth; and Tamara (Mike) and her sons Bram and Ari. He also leaves behind four great-granddaughters: Riley, Quinn, Levi and Taya, as well as his former wife Gertrude Cohos, the mother of his children. Martin will also be deeply missed by his sister Phyllis Cohos. The details of a Celebration of Life will be forthcoming. To send flowers to the family of Martin COHOS, please visit Tribute Store. Longtime Calgary broadcaster Darrel Janz has died at the age of 83. His legacy as a great storyteller will live on, say those who knew him. “It is with a heavy heart that we his family announce that our father and Calgary broadcasting legend Darrel Janz, went to be with his Saviour this morning at the age of 83,” reads a post written by family member Shannon Lee Rae. Janz was a broadcaster for over 60 years, with 50 of them spent in Calgary, where he hosted the CTV six o'clock news from 1973 to 2010. After stepping down from his anchor post, Janz continued at CTV, launching a weekly series called "Inspired," in which he profiled Albertans who had made an inspiring contribution to the province. According to his CTV bio, Janz grew up in the small town of Main Centre, Sask. After finishing high school, he attended teachers' college in Regina. He taught for one year before embarking on a career in broadcasting with a job at CFAM Radio in Altona, Man. Following stints in Moose Jaw, Sask., Saskatoon, Montreal and London, Ont., Janz arrived in Calgary in 1973, signing a five-year contract to host the news at CFCN-TV (now CTV Calgary). He never left. Janz also taught broadcast journalism at SAIT for 11 years and at Mount Royal College for 15 years.

Velma Kuehn Nickel of Calgary, Alberta, passed away on Monday, October 28, 2024, at the Foothills Hospital after a long and fulfilling life. Velma (Vel) was born in Olds, Alberta on April 19, 1931, to Ben and Ida Falkenberg. She had one older brother, Lorence. Vel attended the Reed Ranch School, and then one year of high school in Olds. She also attended one year of Bible School at the Christian Training Institute (CTI) in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1949, Vel married Len Kuehn, whose family also farmed in the Reed Ranch. Len had returned from the war and was a friend of Lorence’s. It soon became apparent that there was another interest for him at the Falkenberg farm. Len and Velma built a home and farmed just north of the Falkenberg farm located 12 miles east of Olds. They had five children: Lynn, Joan, Judi, Marla and Randy. In 1965 the family sold the farm and moved to Calgary. This was a big adjustment for all. Vel worked short-term at The Bay and Foothills Hospital before taking a position working in the Medical Laboratory Technology Department at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. She enjoyed her work there and remained until her retirement. In 1990, Len passed away following a long illness. His death was followed within a few months by the death of Vel’s father. Through these difficult times Vel showed tremendous strength of character and resilience. She gave so much of herself to her children, grandchildren and the care of her mother. She purchased a vacation property in Whitefish, MT which was enjoyed by all the family. In 1995, Vel married Helwin Nickel of Trochu, Alberta. Her family circle grew to include three more adult children, their spouses and their extended families. The couple spent time between their homes in Trochu, Calgary and Whitefish and enjoyed golf and travel. Vel’s faith in God was an integral part of her life. From an infant she attended East Olds Baptist Church. After moving to Calgary, Vel was involved at Brentview Baptist Church, Hawkwood Baptist Fellowship and Richmond Hill Baptist Church. Vel’s circle of friends was always increasing, including becoming a special friend to many of her children’s friends. She was a very caring individual. In her own quiet way, she was always ready to help those in need, including her sponsorship of children in Third World countries and her great love for animals, especially her cats. Vel was predeceased by her husbands, Len and Helwin; her parents, Ben and Ida; her mother-in-law, Louise; her brother and sister-in-law, Lorence and Joyce and other extended family members. Ronald Vincent Levangie, aged 78, passed away on May 15, 2025, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and well-worn running shoes. Born in Powell River, British Columbia, Ron later made his home in Calgary, Alberta and after retiring from the SAIT Campus Operations and Maintenance Department eventually settled in Barrie, Ontario—a man always moving, both in spirit and on the road. A passionate marathoner, Ron completed an extraordinary 78 marathons in his lifetime. But his greatest source of pride wasn’t crossing finish lines—it was his family. He leaves behind his beloved wife of 59 years, Pat; his daughter, Traci Bowen, and her husband, Brook, along with their sons, Seth and Tanner; and his son, Jason Levangie, and his wife, Tara, with their children Jason, Breen, Savannah, and Lexi. Ron is also survived by his siblings Reg, Terry, Jannine, and Jamie, as well as countless dear friends he made across the globe during his many journeys. Ron was known for his quick wit, warm heart, and his knack for offering advice—whether it was asked for or not—to anyone fortunate enough to cross his path. His sense of humour and generous spirit touched many, and his stories will live on in the memories of those he loved. As his brother Terry lovingly shared, “I would like to think he is on his last flight to the unknown, as he loved to travel. Maybe he can find another marathon to run in the great beyond.” In lieu of donations, the family invites you to honour Ron in the way he would have loved most: lace up your runners and go for a jog in his memory.

December 29th, 1944 - March 11th, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Murray, who passed away on Tuesday, March 11, 2025, in Calgary, Alberta, at the age of 80 years. A proud family man and community builder, over the decades Murray moved through this world with a smile, a joke and so much compassion. Murray was born on December 29, 1944. Born to William and Kathleen (Boyle) McAuley in Brandon, Manitoba and big brother to Pat Tritter (Duane), Betti-Rae Toole (Larry) and Rob McAuley (Kathi). Married for over 57 years, Murray and Sue (Binder) had a modern partnership supporting each other to pursue their careers and interests while sharing the workload at home. Together they played sports, entertained, camped and headed out on long road trips or Sunday drives singing along to one of Murray’s mixed tapes. With the arrival of their daughters, Marcy McAuley and Dana McAuley-Faulds, they shared their love of the outdoors, athletics, music and world cuisines. When their daughters married, Murray welcomed sons-in-law, Piotr Staszelis and Stephen Faulds to the family. He chose Papa as his preferred name with the arrival of his grandchildren Konrad Staszelis, Maya Staszelis and Mason Faulds. Murray also leaves behind his extended family and a wonderful group of friends whose friendships he cherished like family.
A brief history - It’s hard to sum up eighty years of a full life but we tried ...In 1959, a promotion with Firestone for his father brought the McAuley family west to Calgary. Settling into the new community of Haysboro across the street from what was Hays Farm (now Hays Apartments), these new Stampede City slickers settled into big city life with the aroma of the prairies at their front door. Outgoing and always on the move, as a youth Murray was active in and around his community. He was a newspaper carrier, athlete, occasional babysitter, DeMolay member, large truck tire changer at Firestone and even a deejay spinning the best grooves at local parties. Murray attended the new Henry Wise Wood High School where he played volleyball, basketball and football; his athletic pursuits included community baseball and hockey. Forever a proud Wise Wood Warrior his letter jacket hung in every closet he lived in until his passing. After high school Murray started his post-secondary education at Mount Royal College. It was playing for the Cougar’s men's volleyball team at a local tournament that Murray met the love of his life, Sue. Even though Sue’s ankle was badly sprained, Murray’s teammates helped their love along by carrying Sue to sit with him. Two years later in true Calgary fashion a summer wedding became a winter wonderland as Murray and Sue said their “I do’s” on June 10, 1967. After Mount Royal, Murray was a day trader at the Pacific West Brokerage House and a volunteer football coach for Henry Wise Wood. However, Murray’s vision for his career was to be an athletic director but no university in Canada offered this emerging profession. At the University of Calgary (U of C) Murray blazed a new trail as the first student registered to complete a physical education major with a business minor. While completing his degree, Murray coached the Mount Royal College men’s volleyball team. Upon graduation from U of C, Murray returned to Henry Wise Wood as a teacher and coach working with his friend and mentor Ken Tidsbury. In 1976, Ken recruited Murray to the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT) as the Assistant Coordinator of Student Athletics where he continued to teach, coach and build his skills in sports administration. Over the 11 years Murray was at a SAIT he was promoted to Coordinator of Student Athletics and later Athletic Director. Instrumental in the building of the Campus Centre, it became the hub for Trojan Athletics, intramural sports and community events. Being part of the Trojans success at provincial, regional and national championships was a point of pride for Murray. Highlights included the Trojans men’s basketball team winning the national championship under coach Phil Allen and Murray taking the men’s hockey team to China (the first time a team toured and played exhibition games across China). In 1992, Murray was inducted into the SAIT Athletic Wall of Distinction in the builder category recognizing his groundwork to ensure sustainable funding for athletics was in place that eventually became the Trojan Athletic Foundation after his departure. Murray also served on the executive boards of the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference (ACAC) and the Canadian Colleges Athletic Association and in 2017 was inducted into ACAC’s Hall of Fame. Outside of SAIT, Murray was a member of the Calgary Booster Club and was proud to be part of the group that sparked the idea to bring the world to Calgary and host a Winter Olympics. In 1987, Murray and Sue moved to Vancouver with Dana for new horizons and a try at west coast living. Although the temperate climate and ocean shores were highlights, the opportunity in 1989 for Murray to become the University of Lethbridge’s first full-time Athletic Director wooed them back to Alberta. During his six years at U of L, Murray helped revitalize the athletics program and backed by Lethbridge’s strong athletics focused community, he co-founded the Pronghorn Booster Club ensuring sustainable funding was in place for years to come. Proof of this investment was the national championship win for the Pronghorns men’s hockey team under coach Mike Babcock. In 1994, the southern Alberta winds took Murray, Sue and Dana back to Calgary. A time to reconnect with family and friends and pursue new career paths. The purchase of Campus Supply became Murray’s last chapter in his career, giving him the opportunity to be his own boss, draw on his business and people skills and be on the road serving his customers across Western Canada. For the first eleven years Dana worked alongside Murray assisting him in various capacities while building her skills for the future. Shifting his base of operations out of his home, Murray formed an alliance with Don Cable of Cable Consulting and together they navigated a new competitive space that often pitted ‘the little guy’ against new and bigger companies.
At 75 years old, the time came for Murray to retire and enjoy more time with his family and friends. In 2019, Murray's lifelong dream to return to his parent's Irish homeland was achieved. With his son-in-law Piotr as chauffeur, Murray, Sue, Marcy, Dana, Konrad and Maya together explored the sights, sounds, food and drink of Dublin, Belfast, Galway, Cork and many points of interest along the way. But the highlight for Murray was an extended stay in the Ballymena, County Antrim area where his maternal and paternal family lines originated. Here he added to his McAuley family tree, saw Mount Slemish where his Grandad McAuley played as a boy and was welcomed into the 300-year-old Boyle family home.
In 2023, Murray and Sue embraced retirement life by moving to Boardwalk Retirement Community (BRC). This warm and vibrant community of seniors became the best place for Murray after the isolation of the pandemic. Keen to be active in daily life at BRC, Murray volunteered to create new music activities, oversee their first Stampede Breakfast and led the effort to raise the money to purchase a seated curling game that will come into play later in 2025.
Saying good-bye - We were in awe of how Murray approached his final days with humor, compassion and lots of love. He shared the immense pride he had of his family, the opportunities he enabled for himself and others, the many friendships he enjoyed, his contributions to every community he was a part of and his perseverance through tough times. He stayed in the driver's seat reaching out as best as possible to his family and friends to share his Stage 4 cancer diagnosis. But really these calls were about him having another chance to connect, reminisce, laugh and celebrate the best moments of his life. He didn’t reach everyone, but know he was thinking of you. There are many things we will miss about Murray; his jokes and his smile; his compassion, encouragement and big bear hugs; and his amazing encyclopedic like memory. The best girl dad a daughter could ask for; his unwavering support; in the stands cheering us on; that booming voice; his love of music and all things sports. So, with a Furry Murray in hand, a toast to you for always being the spark of happiness in our lives!
Celebration of Life - We are planning to host a Celebration of Life in June, details are still being finalized. We encourage you to sign up to receive more information at Murray’s Celebration of Life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Murray’s name to the Trojan Athletic Foundation Awards, the Calgary Booster Club, Pronghorns Booster Club or the Alberta Cancer Foundation. Bill was born on the McCormick homestead in Fairview, AB, and grew up in Moose Jaw, SK. At the age of thirteen, he met Sheila Roberts—which became a 68-year love story and a 62-year marriage. Together, they started a family in Lethbridge, AB, moving to Calgary, AB, in 1963. For the Calgary Board of Education, he was a teacher, principal, guidance counsellor, manager for continuing education, and a school board trustee who advocated for students first. April 13, 1943 - March 2, 2025
Vi was born on a farm near Glenbush, Saskatchewan on April 13, 1943. She was the 7th child in a large Mennonite Brethren family of 14 children. Her first language was German. Learning to read and write early, she started school at the same time as her brother Ed who was a year older. All through grade school they competed with each other for the highest marks. Vi had an aptitude for music and was taught to play the piano by her mother. And she also sang with the family. Practicing for one hour daily also had the advantage of getting her out of some farm chores! She accepted Christ as her Saviour and was baptized later at age 14. Vi enjoyed cooking and took over much of the cooking for the family.
Graduating in 1960, Vi stayed home for a year, then attended Bethany Bible College for 3 years. She completed a secretarial course at Saskatoon Business College, but then entered the University of Saskatoon, transferring to the Faculty of Education after her first year. She took a year off to gain experience and certainly gained it teaching a class of 37 grade 4’s in one of the toughest districts of Prince Albert! Returning to university, she graduated in 1970.
During her time at University, Vi was involved with Inter Varsity Christian Fellowship and spent some summers counselling at IVCF camps at Rocky Mountain House, Sundre, and Thetis Island. Not wishing to spend the summer indoors in the craft shack on Thetis Island, she learned to swim! Earlier, Vi had travelled to several remote BC towns, helping to teach Vacation Bible School. In 1967, she spent an exciting summer in Europe with Youth for Christ teams, travelling in Holland, France, and Spain.
She bought her first car, a bright red Toyota Sprinter Fastback, and drove to Calgary in 1970 and taught Elementary school for three years. She met John through IVCF camps and mutual friends, and they married on July 8, 1972. Vi loved backpack camping and cross-country skiing in the Rockies.
In 1973, Vi and John moved to Kitimat British Columbia, and taught there for 3 years. Justin was born there in 1975. Yearning for the Rockies and the blue skies of Alberta, Vi and John returned to Alberta and John spent 5 years teaching in Jasper. Initially, Vi was a homemaker and part time “waitress”, but she returned to teaching in the Junior/Senior High School in Business Education. Jonathan was born in Jasper in 1978.
Returning to Calgary in 1981, Vi taught in the Communications Arts Department at SAIT until she retired in 2003. At Westview, Vi was treasurer for one year, a soloist on Sunday mornings, and she helped lead Junior Worship. After retiring, she started and led an ESL class. Vi travelled regularly to England with the family so that Justin and Jonathan could get to know their grandparents.
Later, Vi and John travelled extensively, including Europe, the Caribbean, Hawaii, and New Zealand. In 2007, they taught at Bingham Academy, an interdenominational Christian school in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. Returning for semesters in 2010 and 2013, they were able to travel in Kenya, Tanzania, Zanzibar, Egypt, and the Seychelles.
Back in Calgary, Vi and John continued to travel internationally and spent their winters downhill skiing in Alberta and British Columbia. Vi last skied a run at Fernie on January 24 of this year.
Vi was a multi-talented person, and her life was full of exciting and challenging experiences that she could never have dreamed of when growing up on a remote farm at the edge of the northern bush country in Saskatchewan. She loved and was loved greatly by family and friends. Sadly, Alzheimer’s and heart failure ended her life too soon, but she is now at peace in the presence of her Lord and Saviour.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 14, 2025, at 1:00 pm at the Westview Baptist Church (1313 Ranchlands Way NW, Calgary, AB).

August 21, 1933 – London, England - December 3, 2024 – Calgary, Alberta
Jean is the wife of Norman Senn (deceased June 22, 2024) retired from SAIT in 1988 and former Department Head of Medical Science.
With immeasurable sadness, we announce the passing of Ruth "Jean" Geraldine Senn (nee King). Having lost her darling husband Norman only months ago, in June 2024, we entrust her now into his waiting arms. Wherever Jeannie went in her life, laughter followed. We have no doubt that laughter will follow her now as she is reunited with the friends she so dearly missed, Lily Smalls and Doreen Stephen, and passing only hours before her, Donna Rogalski. Since her birth on August 21, 1933, in London, England, she has made the world a better place. Though she held many jobs, it was the things she was never paid for that defined her and brought her joy. Her volunteer work with the Calgary Public Library, cuddling newborns in the neonatal unit at the hospital, The Mustard Seed, Calgary Women's Emergency Shelter, The Humane Society, Sheriff King Shelter, and Agape Hospice was where she gave the gift of her love and time. Despite immigrating to Canada with Norman in 1959, family in England were always of utmost importance and she worked hard to maintain these tight bonds. Jean is predeceased by older brother Charles King, and younger brother Francis Corrick. Jean had exceptionally close relationships with her nieces Anita and Denise and nephews Frank and Dan throughout their lives. It is through her example that we have the gift of such strength of connection with family, chosen family, and friends. Wherever both Jean and Norman went, they developed an immediate network of beautiful friends. She stubbornly leaves her ever-devoted daughters, Charlene (Meredith) and Tanya (Kevin), as well as her granddaughter, Jordan. We know it is also with a heart full of sweet memories that she leaves a loving circle of friends at Rocky Ridge Retirement Community and, of course, the second-to-none family in MacEwan Ridge Villas. It was of utmost importance to Jean and to us, her family, to extend a heartfelt thank you to all of the individuals at Rocky Ridge Retirement, Alberta Health Services and, of course, Agape Hospice, who worked tirelessly and compassionately over the past several months to make her transition as gentle as she deserved. A celebration of life will be held in a season more conducive to the joyous, bright and warm affair that Jean has always planned for. If friends so desire, memorial tributes may be made directly to the Agape Hospice, 1302 8 Ave NW, Calgary, AB, Telephone: (403) 282-6588, Website: www.agapehospice.ca. Condolences, memories, and photos may be shared and viewed with Jean’s family at https://mhfh.com/tribute/details/51845/Jean-Senn/obituary.html#tribute-start. In living memory of Jean Senn, a tree will be planted in the Ann & Sandy Cross Conservation Area by McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, Cr
December 3, 1948 - March 17, 2025
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Chris Smith. Chris was born on December 3, 1948 in London England and passed away at Foothills Medical Center on March 17, 2025. Chris is survived by his loving wife Christine, son Ty (Leanne), daughter Kim and granddaughters Charley, Lemmy and Maisie.
Chris started his first apprenticeship at Guinness, Park Royal at age 16. Over the next 10 years he completed his electrical and instrumentation journeyman tickets. In 1975, he immigrated to Canada, being brought over by the Steel Company of Canada landing in Edmonton. After 6 months he went to Valleyview with Alberta Trunkline and then on to Prince George and Intercon Pulp. It was in Prince George that Chris and Christine met in 1977, they married in 1978, and their 46-year adventure began. Married life started in Fort Nelson where he worked for the largest Gas Plant. In 1981, Chris started teaching Industrial Instrumentation at SAIT until 2000. He served on the Board of Governors for several years. Family, History and Travel were very important to Chris. He enjoyed his motorbikes and especially a ride with Ty and Leanne to Alaska when Ty completed his HVAC apprenticeship. In the various RV's he took the family across Canada to Newfoundland and through much of the USA. Chris and Christine drove the
Dempster Highway to Tuktoyaktuk within the first 2 weeks of the highway opening in 2018. In his later years he did extensive research into his father's war activities, especially on D. Day where his father drove an amphibious tank. This research gave him a great sense of pride and admiration for his dad. He wanted to leave his legacy to Ty and just completed it prior to his death. Chris left us far too soon; we still had many more adventures planned. Rest in peace my darling. Caring for the family is Lyle Reeves Funerals of High River (Craig Snodgrass) 403.652.4242.

March 7, 1940 - April 28, 2025
Ivan taught the Journeyman Electrician's apprenticeship program in Electrical Department and retired in 2002 after 24 years at SAIT. He enjoyed a few events with SAIT's ALIVE.
Ivan Charles Tandberg passed away peacefully on April 28, 2025, surrounded by family, friends, and a bottle of Blue Label Crown Royal. Lots of tears, and also lots of love and laughter as well. A true celebration of life. Special thanks to the team at AgeCare SkyPointe Hospice for their exceptional care and compassion. Ivan loved “posies” ( flowers) he would approve of you getting some for the person you love. Life is short. Less than a century in a blink of an eye. He loved almost every minute of it. Smiling to the end
