SAIT's ALIVE is an organization of retired and former SAIT employees and their spouses dedicated to preserving and promoting the spirit of friendship, preserving SAIT history, supporting scholarship achievements, recognizing outstanding contributions and providing opportunities to engage in social activities.
SAIT’s ALIVE is the association of retired and former employees of the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT). Established in 1983, SAIT’s ALIVE’s main focus has been to bring together former SAIT employees and their spouses into a community of congeniality and support. SAIT’s ALIVE elects an executive body and appoints sub-committee members to manage its affairs and to plan and promote its events and activities.
The group’s approach is informal and relaxed, encouraging association among its members for mutual interest, activity and purpose. SAIT’s ALIVE is a non-profit organization and is, in part, supported by SAIT.
Membership is open to all retired and former SAIT employees and their spouses.
Your first SAIT's ALIVE membership is free (whenever you join). After that, a $15 annual fee allows you to maintain your membership for each calendar year. Annual fees for each former employee include membership for the spouse.
The main contact people are the current year’s Leadership Team. Their contact phone numbers and email addresses are published in the newsletter and listed on this website at Leadership Team.
A printable copy of the membership form is available Membership form and is included in the SAIT's ALIVE Brochure.
There are many advantages to becoming a member of SAIT’s ALIVE. Joining allows you to participate in
Spring Luncheon
A spring and a fall barbeque each year
AGM and Christmas dinner and social evening
Members are encouraged to establish special interest groups such as the monthly coffee group.
Social events provided under the SAIT's ALIVE banner are listed on the Social Events page.
Current paid-up members receive the SAIT's ALIVE Newsletter by email or hard copy approximately quarterly. Available issues also appear on the Newsletter page.
For a reasonable annual fee members and their families can enjoy access to the excellent recreational services of the SAIT Campus Centre (requires a current SAIT’s ALIVE membership card). ). *under review* SAIT is in the initial phase of a multi-year project to redevelop Campus Centre. The initial scope of the project is approximately four years. It is too early in their plans for SAIT to confirm if SAIT's ALIVE will continue to have access to the new SAIT Campus Centre for a reasonable annual fee but we are one of the stakeholders they plan to meet with later to look at options.
The Library has a change in their system that does not allow the SAIT’s ALIVE membership card to be used as a library card. They recommend SAIT’s ALIVE members get a TAL (The Alberta Library) Card. These cards are issued freely to members of most public libraries across the province.
SAIT's ALIVE members can
Go to any Calgary Public Library branch
Request the TAL Card
Bring it to the Reg Erhardt Library
They will set up an account and add the SAIT Library barcode to the TAL card
The Library is open and accessible, the card would be required if someone wanted to take a book out.
*Message from the SAIT's ALIVE Leadership Team:
For many years SAIT'S ALIVE has had the privilege of parking in the SAIT Parkade for a nominal charge but this privilege was abused. Instead of cancelling the Parking Program, SAIT introduced a Pilot Parking Program to run from July 15,2022 - June 30, 2023. It will be reviewed.
All guidelines from the previous parking pass remain in effect. NOTE: This pass is not a valid parking pass to be used during working hours by any SAIT’s ALIVE member who is employed by SAIT on a part-time or full-time contract.
*New SAIT's ALIVE Pilot Parking Program
SAIT’s ALIVE Parking program as of July 15, 2022
Beginning July 18, 2022, Alumni and Development will support SAIT’s ALIVE parking on SAIT campus through the availability of one-time exit passes.
A total of 200 one-time exit passes for the Parkade (P6, Level 1) will be available to members of SAIT’s ALIVE from July 15, 2022 – June 30, 2023.
How it works:
- Parking passes can be requested by emailing saitsalive.parking@sait.ca at least one business day before the pass is required (if a pass is required for Monday it must be requested on the previous Friday). If a member does not have email, a pass can be reserved by calling Carrie at 403.210.4062.
- The name of the SAIT’s ALIVE member and the reason for attending campus must be included in the email for audit tracking purposes.
- Members can enter the Parkade P6, Level 1 by taking a ticket as they enter. The pass can then be picked up at AA305 (Heritage Hall) between the hours of 8:30am-4:30pm and used to exit the Parkade.
- No need to show a SAIT's ALIVE membership card. SAIT Alumni & Development have a list of current paid-up members
Please note:
- SAIT’s ALIVE members who have parking cards from the previous program can return their card to the Parking Office to receive their deposit back. Effective August 2, 2022 the Parking Office will be operating from Senator Burns building (NN104).
- Parking is subject to availability and is not guaranteed.
- Passes are to be used by SAIT’s ALIVE members only. Passes are for DAY-TIME use for on-campus activities
- This program is managed entirely by Alumni and Development and the Parking Office is not able to supply passes
- These passes will not be required for any invited events hosted by SAIT as parking passes are standard in the invitations to our events.
- Any abuse of the new program may result in the member’s parking privileges being revoked.
- This pilot program will run until June 30, 2023 at which time the program will be reviewed.
Parking prices at SAIT have recently changed and evening parking is currently available at a rate of $5 per evening. As there is a cost per pass for Alumni and Development, we would encourage SAIT’s ALIVE members to consider only using the passes for daytime
attendance on campus.
SAIT’s ALIVE also supports the work of the SAIT Archives and contributes to SAIT student scholarships.
The SAIT’s ALIVE Coordinator serves as the official link between SAIT's ALIVE and SAIT. If you have concerns about association matters please contact any member of the Leadership Team for action. There is no drop-in service for association members on SAIT’s ALIVE matters at SAIT.
