Concert Band

Band is open to any high school student wanting to play a music instrument in a group setting. Participants will learn and play traditional and contemporary band literature and be required to participate in at least four performances throughout the school year: winter concert, spring concert, regional band festival, and commencement ceremonies. There are 4 sections of band I,II,II,and IV. The only prerequisite for a sequentially higher level is successful completion of the prior level a year before. New members start with Band I.

After School Lesson Schedule

You should arrive at Parkersburg South High School/Ohio Valley University no less than 30 minutes prior to their performance time. Instrumental performers would be best served if they park in the rear of the school. The entrance to the band room (warm up area) is up the ramp to the rear of the PSHS Marching Band Trailer.

Concert Band Chair Placement Auditions

We will hold chair placement auditions on Monday Nov. 26th and Tuesday Nov. 27th. (The first two days we return from thanksgiving break.) The audition will consist of:

1) 2 sections of music to be picked from any of your Christmas Concert Literature

2) A sight reading selection

3) 2 scales selected from up to 4 sharps and 4 flats

4) And your chromatic scale from as low as you can play to as High as you can play and back down.

You will be judged on Tone Quality, Articulation (accents, staccato, legato, slurs), Pitch Accuracy, Rhythmic Accuracy, and Dynamics.
