4-6-0 TYPE TEN WHEELER
The 4-6-0 Type was the most numerous type on the Rutland. There were 35 locomotives in six classes. Not shown on this page are Classes F-15 and F-14 numbered 58-62 which were built in 1893 and 1891 and were gone by 1921.
F-12 CLASS - Numbers 40-49 were built in 1902 by ALCO's Schenectady and Manchester works. They had 20x26 inch cylinders and 69 inch drivers, the highest of the Rutland Ten Wheelers.
Number 40 was photographed at Bennington April 19, 1938.

F-11 CLASS - Numbers 50-57 were built by Schenectady in 1902 at the same time as the F-12 Class but with 21x26 inch cylinders and 63 inch drivers more suitable for freight work.

F-13 CLASS - Number 63 and 64 were built by Schenectady in 1898 and were both scrapped in 1939. They had 20x28 inch cylinders and 61" drivers for freight service. They had slide valves and were not superheated.

F-2 CLASS - Numbers 70-73 Class F-2-k were built in 1910 and numbers 74-79 Class F-2-j were built in 1912, all ten by Schenectady. They were the largest of the Rutland 4-6-0s with 22 1/2 x 26 inch cylinders and 69 inch drivers. They were scrapped from September 1951 to August 1953.
