4-4-0
4-4-0 TYPE AMERICAN STANDARD TYPE
The Rutland was operated for decades almost exclusively by 4-4-0 type locomotives. This page is divided into two sections. One contains some examples of the 4-4-0s that were gone by the 1913 renumbering and a section on the twenty 4-4-0s that operated after 1913. The last two were scrapped in 1936.
PRE 1913 RENUMBERING 4-4-0s
Bennington & Rutland's "Hiland Hall" was built by Mason in 1869
Rutland's 75 was built by Mason in 1862 and scrapped in 1905. It is shown after rebuilding.
"N.L. Davis" was built by Taunton in 1868 for the Rutland & Burlington.
"J. Burdett" was built by Taunton in 1869.
243 was built by Schenectady in 1900 but was sold in 1902 when the Rutland was leased by the NYC.
4-4-0s OPERATED AFTER THE 1913 RENUMBERING
C-1 CLASS 4-4-0 - 82 and 83 were built by Schenectady in 1891.
82 is at Bennington in 1924. The C-1 was scrapped in 1932.
C-1-a CLASS 4-4-0 - 84 and 85 were built by Schenectady in 1894.
85 was photographed with a New York Central number. The C-1-a was scrapped in 1920.
C-1-b CLASS 4-4-0 - 86-89 were built by Schenectady in 1897 and 1899.
87 was scrapped in 1932.
88 was scrapped in 1936.
C-25 CLASS 4-4-0 - 793 and 794 were built by Schenectady in 1884.
793 was scrapped in 1919.
794 was scrapped in 1926
INSPECTION 4-4-0 - Number 99 was built as Adirondack & St. Lawrence 10 by Schenectady in 1896 and scrapped in 1936.
"Ne-Ha-Sa-Ne" is at Rutland in 1921.
