The COMPARATIVE form of an adjective is used for comparing two people or things: he is taller than me, ... The SUPERLATIVE is used for comparing one person or thing with every other member of their group: he was the tallest boy in the class, ...
Adjective
Only one syllable, Examples:
fast, calm, tall, ...
Only one syllable, with one vowel and one consonant at the end. Examples: hot, big, fat, ...
Two syllables, ending in Y. Examples: happy, friendly, healthy, ...
Two syllables or more, not ending in Y. Examples: modern, interesting, beautiful, ...
Comparative
Add -ER: faster, taller,calmer, ...
Double the consonant, and add -ER: hotter, bigger, fatter, ...
Change Y to I, then add -ER: happier, friendlier, healthier, ...
Use MORE before the adjective:more modern, more interesting, more beautiful, ...
Superlative
Add -EST: fastest,tallest, calmest, ...
Double the consonant, and add -EST: hottest, biggest, fattest, ...
Change Y to I, then add -EST: happiest, friendliest, healthiest, ...
Use MOST before the adjective: most modern, most interesting, most beautiful, ...

How to use comparatives and superlatives
COMPARATIVES are used to compare two things. You can use sentences with THAN, or you can use a conjunction like BUT.
Joan is taller than Josep.
Josep is tall, but Joan is taller.
This car is more expensive than that bike.
You can also use the 'AS ... AS' structure. Examples are shown below:
Mara is as old as Eugenia.
I'm almost as good in math as in English.
SUPERLATIVES are used to compare more than two things. Superlative sentences usually use THE, because there is only one superlative. Examples:
Maria is the tallest in the class.
Joana is tall, and Julia is taller, but Maria is the tallest.
Joana is the most beautiful girl.
