Alex’s instructional videos

Why hello!

I developed these videos during the summer of 2020 while we were in the midst of the COVID 19 pandemic, in the hope that it would support instruction during the 2020-21 school year, especially if we were continuing virtual/home learning. My goal was to make some math videos that have a bit more of a personal connection than what you might see widely available online.

Many of the videos use materials fully developed by myself, while other videos are based heavily on the Pearson common core texts. In general, the Algebra 1 videos are a mix of my own work and Pearson materials, the Algebra 2 videos are a bit more weighted towards Pearson materials, and the Stats-Probability videos materials are fully developed on my own. Lastly, the Topics in Math videos are very much a work in progress, and at this point (early 2021) are mostly borrowed from youtube.

In general, though with some exceptions, there are two videos for each topic: one containing an introduction to the topic with some solved examples, and a second containing the solution to a challenge problem and/or a real world connection. Note: in high school math, real world problems have a bad reputation, some of which is justified: it isn't likely that you'll need to solve many of these actual specific problems in the real world in your life after high school, but that isn't really the point. I don’t want to pretend that we are training you for a specific event that may or may not occur in your future, but these are still valuable problems to work through your brain, and I think it is also valuable to highlight a connection between the mathematics and the real world. Hence: real world connection problems.

I am also including a link to the pdf of the starting template for each video, based on my vision that students could print these out prior to watching a video and complete an organized set of notes as they watch the video.

I hope these are useful - enjoy :)
