Financial Support

Financial Support

Only those presenting at the symposium can seek financial support. We encourage presenters to seek financial support from their institutions. Where this is not possible, some travel expenses can be claimed. Public transport and flights within the UK can be reimbursed. If a presenter is taking a flight from outside the UK but has a connection within the UK to Belfast (for example London to Belfast), the UK travel can be claimed. Up to £100 can be claimed for Economy/Standard Class travel within the UK. Taxi’s are not reimbursed.

Those seeking financial assistance should retain all receipts, invoices and proof of travel. Claims can be reimbursed on the day of the Symposium or in the weeks after, until 7th May, using the Financial Support Form. Proof of attendance at the symposium must be provided (i.e. Certificate of Participation) obtained at the RES desk at the Symposium.

To be eligible you need to meet the following criteria;

  • Be presenting a paper at the RES Symposium of Junior Researchers
  • Be a member of the Royal Economic Society
  • Not be in full-time employment
  • Not wholly funded by your institution or other supporting bodies, for accommodation or travel*

Alternative Funding Restrictions

This funding offer is independent of both the funding initiatives for PhD students for the RES Annual Conference. Also, note the RES will not reimburse any expenses that are also claimed by your student department (or elsewhere). You will be signing the Claim Form declaring that you are not profiting by claiming the same expenses from two sources. If this is discovered at a later date, then you will be obliged to return the RES payment.

* If you are receiving partial support from another source, please provide receipts for all of your expenses together with evidence of the additional support being provided.

If you need additional support around attending the Symposium please contact the Student Organising Committee at res.junior.symposium@gmail.com
