COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update – 9th March 2020

In light of the recent events unfolding around the Coronavirus, a working group has been set up and has been reviewing what steps/decision should be taken around the RES Annual Conference 2020. Once that decision is made, we will inform you. However, we would appreciate that you currently do not make any new travel bookings or expenditure against the Conference whilst a decision is being reached.

COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Update – 28 February 2020

There is an evolving global situation regarding COVID-19 (Coronavirus). Whilst the UK risk level of coronavirus has been increased from low to moderate, the risk to individuals has not changed at this stage and remains low. Events at the RES Conference are, therefore, going ahead as planned.

The UK Chief Medical Officer’s advice is that anyone who travels to the UK from mainland China, Thailand, Japan, Republic of Korea, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Singapore, Malaysia or Macau and, within 14 days of travelling to the UK, experiences cough or fever or shortness of breath, to stay indoors and call NHS 111, even if symptoms are mild.

Travellers to the UK from the following specific areas after 19 February, should call NHS 111 for advice, stay indoors and avoid contact with other people even if you do not have symptoms:

  • Iran
  • Specific lockdown areas in northern Italy as designated by the Government of Italy
  • ‘Special care zones’ in South Korea as designated by the Government of the Republic of South Korea
  • Hubei province

We will continue to monitor the situation and provide further guidance as information becomes available. In particular, we will follow the advice of the UK Government and the Northern Ireland the Public Health Agency. Queen’s University Belfast is also maintaining a page of advice here.

We would encourage all participants travelling to the Symposium to take out travel insurance
