Required skill level

Though this is an advanced course, students need no prior experience with drawing or painting. Each student, from beginner to the experienced artist, will be instructed at his or her level. Serious work ethic is required.

Program Housing

Program housing varies from apartments to hotels and hostels depending on the number of participants and availability of rooms.

Other Lodging Options

You may choose to arrange your own accommodations. Please be aware that if you do not stay in the program housing you will need to get yourself to the studio or other meeting points on your own.

Food

Food is not provided by the program except breakfast for those taking advantage of the program housing.

Internet, ATM, and Other Resources

Participants who bring laptops may obtain access to the host server. Generally banks with an ATM accept most foreign debit cards. It is best to have additional credit cards as well as some cash, so you are not caught off guard. In some cases we will find washing machines in the apartments, but many accommodations do not have laundry on location so students may opt to bring their clothes to a Laundromat (be sure to ask the price beforehand, as laundry cleaning service is much more expensive than in the United States). Skype, phone cards or setting your cell phone up for international calls from abroad are good ways of communicating with people back home if the need arises.

Italian Language

You will not need to know Italian to participate in this workshop, but it is fun and helpful to have some basic knowledge. Many students find that they want to communicate more with local residents, and therefore we recommend that as a minimum you pick up a phrasebook. Although many vendors in Tuscany know at least some English, it is always polite to ask first: “Parla inglese?”– “Do you speak English?”

    • Two pairs of shoes: one Very comfortable shoes for lots of walking. Flip-flops or sandals for use in the apartments and bathrooms.
