Girl Scout troops are groups of about 10-20 youth in grades K-12.
A troop:
is often made up of scouts in the same grade and sometimes from the same school
is supported by at least two adults
usually meets in a community space like a school or library
sets its own meeting schedule (e.g. weekly, bi-weekly, monthly)
chooses what activities to explore (e.g. outdoor skills, STEM, life skills)
Youth can also "Go Solo" and enjoy Girl Scout programming with their family, instead of with a troop.
If you are new to Girl Scouts, visit the Girl Scouts of Eastern Massachusetts website to sign up. If you don't find a troop to join, you can email GSEMA's customer service team (customercare@gsema.org) and/or the Reading GS Coordinator (girlscoutsreadingma@gmail.com) to help connect you with a troop.
Go to myGS.org to log in and click My Account in the top right corner. Then look for the "Household" tab in the menu on the left side of the page to update your youth and volunteer memberships.
Girls and adults can register any time!
The membership year is from October 1 to September 30.
An extended membership allows you to start in April and continue through the upcoming membership year.

Gender Inclusion: GSEMA welcomes non-binary youth and transgender boys in addition to anyone who identifies as a girl. As a youth-serving organization, our priority is the safety and well-being of the young people in our community. Troop leaders, families, and GSEMA staff can work together to support and empower non-binary and transgender youth within Girl Scouting.
