My name is Kimberly Myerson and I am your School Psychologist, as well as the Compass Chairperson. My office is in the back of the Media Center and you can get there from two directions: the last door on the Compass Hall or through the Media Center office, all the way to the back.
I was born in Sandy Springs and I went to Spalding Drive Elementary School, Sandy Springs Middle School, and North Springs High School. I went to a bunch of colleges (Tulane University, University of Florida, Kennesaw State University, and Georgia State University), but the one I call "home" is the University of Florida. GO GATORS!!! I have a Bachelor's degree and a Master's degree in Elementary Education and an Educational Specialist's degree in School Psychology. I taught first grade for 5 years and this is my 16th year as a school psychologist. I have worked in over 25 schools over the years, but have spent the most time at my current schools: Riverwood International Charter School (14th year) and Ridgeview Charter School (8th year).
I have a wonderful husband (Aaron) and 13-year-old son (Aiden), both of whom help out with Compass when they can. When I'm not working, I enjoy LOTS of hobbies. I like to play many types of tabletop, card, and dice games; as well as iPad games. I like to sing and dance (Latin and Ballroom) and occasionally play guitar. Though I am not very good, I enjoy doing all kinds of arts and crafts: drawing, painting, knitting, crocheting, glass fusing, Perler beads, Shrinky Dinks, tie-dying, and digital scrapbooking. I listen to a LOT of audio books. AND I am a HUGE Disney fan, Atlanta Falcon fan, and Harry Potter fan; and my favorite color is red.
One of my jobs as Compass Chairperson is to manage the Compass Library, selecting and purchasing books I think you will enjoy. Aiden helps with the selections and I visit bookstores often to see what the tweens and teens are buying; however, the only way I can know what YOU want to read is if you tell me. MOST of the books in the most recent order came from the surveys that your friends completed. So, if there is a certain book, genre, subject, theme, etc. that you would like to see in the Compass library, let me know.
As a school psychologist, one of my primary jobs is to test students to find out what their strengths and weaknesses are and how I can make school not so difficult for them. I also work with teachers to help them work with their students' strengths and weaknesses. Finally, like the school counselors and school social worker, I talk with students and help them work through whatever issues they are facing.
So, feel free to come and chat with me. If you can't find me in person (since I go from school to school), email me (firstname.lastname@example.org) and we can schedule a time to talk. I'd love to get to know you.
