The Krewe of Net is a slow speed cw net (~13wps). The purpose of the net is to give an opportunity to hams to practice and improve their cw skills in a casual, low pressure net.
When: Every Tuesday night following the RARC weekly information net. Typically 7:30pm. The net may run later on the 3rd Tuesday of the month when the in-person meeting takes place.
Band: 40 meters
Frequency: 7065khz. If 7065khz is active the net will move down a khz or 2 to find an open frequency.
Speed: 13wpm or the speed of its slowest participant of the evening.
Format: Round Table
This net is a less formal round table. The net control for the evening will call CQ Krewe of CW. Those who answer are acknowledged. Net control will make a few opening comments then turn it over to a checked in station. Always there should be a pause before the next station answers to allow others to check in. The responding stations should acknowledge new check-ins and will make comments or chat about most any thing. When a comment is finished, stations should hand it over to whoever is next. Eventually it gets back to net control who will respond to the conversations at that point. When a station decides to leave, he should wait his turn and say so. It is most important to hand over the conversation to the next guy, if not then whoever is suppose to pick it up is confused. The conversations are casual. The speed is 13 WPM or slower if needed.
Why "Krewe of CW": A "Krewe" is a social organization that stages parades and balls for the Carnival season which includes Mardi Gras. Three of the founding members of net were from New Orleans. The name Krewe was tossed out and accepted.
