HANDLING CONCERNS OR CONFLICTS
We recognize that not all decisions made by coaches will satisfy all players. Players and parents/guardians need to recognize that some decisions are made in the best interest of the team as a whole. Coaches are expected to communicate their philosophy and practical guidelines to athletes, and to update athletes with feedback during the season. This can be done verbally and/or in writing.
If any athlete or parent has individual or team concerns, they must have a discussion directly with the coaching staff, so the coaches have an opportunity to explain, justify or answer these concerns and possibly revise tactics. This includes but is not limited to, playing time issues, coach philosophy, division of teams, skill level of team, practice structure, feedback, instruction, etc.
Parents/guardians are not to confront coaches during competitions, or in between matches. Arrangements can be made to have a discussion regarding your concern, after the competition. All parents/guardians need to abide by the 24hr rule (When things get heated and effective communication is not working, everyone needs to remove them selves from the situation for 24 hours). We truly believe that cooler heads prevail after a cooling off period.
During out of town competition, the head coach has the discretion to temporarily suspend a player for a serious violation of the Player Code of Conduct. The coach will complete a player incident report and submit it to the administration team immediately upon returning home at which point it will be reviewed and any action will be determined. Power Volleyball Club reserves the right to review parents’ actions regarding abusive or otherwise unacceptable behavior directed towards coaches, officials, PVC or opposing players, or other spectators. Appropriate action will be taken depending on the severity of the behavior. Furthermore, Power Volleyball Club reserves the right to deny access of parents to the facility in which competitions and practices occur for inappropriate behavior.
WHAT DO YOU DO IF THERE IS A CONCERN?
If your child has a problem or concern, parents/guardians are encouraged to help their children communicate appropriately with their coach.
If there continues to be a concern the parent/guardian may initiate a conversation with the coach. The parent can request the meeting at practice or via email, but the discussion should take place face to face.
If there is no resolution both coach and athlete/parent will be asked to document in writing the issue with Power Volleyball Club Director. After discussion with the coaching staff, there is a suggested one week cooling off period, for the situation to settle and changes to possibly be made from either party. The Club Director will determine what action will be taken from there if any.
If the Club Director is the coach involved then a head coach from another Power Volleyball Club team will take the place of the Club Director.
