There are more than 135 Merit Badges and Troop 277 Typically offers several Merit Badges throughout the year. Below is a list of those with the names of our registered merit badge counselors. You can get resources for some of the merit badges by clicking the name or selecting it from the menu button. If you are interested in a merit badge, including those not listed here, discuss it with your Scoutmaster. They will give you guidance on the merit badge, recommend a counselor, and let you know when the next opportunity may occur.
Step One: Choose a Badge
Talk with your Scoutmaster about your interests, review the requirements, and pick a badge. Your leader will connect you with a qualified counselor.
Step Two: Use the Buddy System
You must have a parent, guardian, or another registered adult with you at each meeting with a counselor.
Step Three: Meet the Counselor
Get a signed merit badge application from your leader, then contact your counselor. At your first meeting, you’ll review requirements and begin working on them. Bring any work you’ve already started.
Step Four: Do the Work
Read the merit badge pamphlet, practice the skills, and complete the requirements as written. If it says “show” or “demonstrate,” you must actually do it.
Step Five: Show Your Stuff
When ready, schedule another meeting with your counselor. Bring your work, projects, or photos. The counselor will test your knowledge and skills.
Step Six: Get the Badge
Once all requirements are met, your counselor signs the application. Turn it in to your leader, and you’ll be awarded the badge.
Important Notes
Scouts must use the official, current requirements.
If requirements change, you may finish with the version you started, or switch to the new one.
There’s no time limit, but all badges must be completed before age eighteen.
