Meet Professor Hokerson

I'm glad you've decided to continue with the orientation. I am looking forward to learning more about you this semester, but this is your chance to learn a little bit more about me and how I can (and will) help you this semester. This class is entirely online which means that we will never meet face-to-face in a classroom; however just because our class is online it doesn't prohibit you from coming to see me in my office when you are on-campus or even making a special trip in to see me. But if getting to ARC's campus is not feasible for you, I am also available to you through a variety of contact points and here is a list of the different ways you can reach me:

I also encourage you to read more about me on my biography page but really the best way to get to know me will be during our class and although you won't see me with your eyes I will be virtually present in a variety of ways, such as:

• Posting weekly announcements
• Answering student questions in the FAQ (in Canvas)
• Participating in weekly activities
• Providing feedback on assignments
• Posting updates to the Gradebook
• Making announcements about class and college events
• Sending and responding to emails

Student Introductions Activity - My Introduction

Registered Students Only: This activity must be completed after the semester begins but no later than the end of Week 1. There are parts of this orientation that you can complete now or feel free to wait until Week 1.

I'm looking forward to getting to know you this semester! As part of your Orientation Activities you need to post a quick introduction about yourself using one of the technologies that we will use throughout the semester, called Padlet. Posting your introduction in Padlet is mandatory and will count as 2 points toward your Online Orientation activities. Here are some quick steps to help you get started in Padlet:

• Create your free Padlet account
  • When you create your free account please be sure that you use your full, registered name so that I can clearly identify your posts.

Once you've created your account and figured out how to post in Padlet go ahead and post a quick intro in our Psyc 300 Online Introductions Padlet - it's easy, just click on the icon below, which will open in a new tab or browser. Then click on the pink + sign in the bottom right corner and voila!

• You can also post without creating an account. If you choose not to create an account be sure that you include your full, registered name in your introduction so that I know who you are (or you will appear anonymously) - thanks.

My Introduction Instructions

First, be sure to add a picture of you with your introduction so we can see who you are.

Next, your introduction will include 5 things about yourself so be sure to carefully read the information below. Please tell us:

• what year you are in school (e.g. 2nd year, 1st semester, etc.)
• why you are taking this class (there is no right answer to this question)
• something that is interesting about you (family, hobby, goals, aspirations, etc.)

Then please choose any two of the following “fun” questions to your introduction:

• If there was one type of food that you couldn’t live without, what would it be?
• What is one goal you’d like to accomplish during your lifetime?
• When you were little, who was your favorite super hero and why?
• Who is your hero? (a parent, a celebrity, an influential person in one’s life)
• What’s your favorite season of the year, and why?
• If they made a movie of your life, what would it be about and which actor would you want to play you?
• If you could visit any place in the world, where would you choose to go and why?
• What are your favorite hobbies?
• Tell us about a unique or quirky habit of yours?
• If you had to describe yourself using three words, they would be...
