Welcome to the online orientation for my distance education (DE) Psychology 300 - General Principles class at American River College! This orientation is intended for registered students as well as students that are interested in adding this class. Although it may seem that a DE class might be easier, in fact it can be more demanding than a traditional face-to-face or even a hybrid class, so it's very important that you complete this orientation before the start of the semester to determine if it is a good fit for your learning style and expectations.
I expect that this orientation will take you about 1 hour to complete so I encourage you to take short breaks along the way. That may seem like a lot of time however it is essential that you thoroughly complete all steps of this orientation before starting the class- don't cut corners or you'll miss out on important information. After having completed this tutorial you will be able to answer the following questions:
For answers to these questions use the Orientation Navigation menu above my picture on the left to complete all steps of this orientation, including the "Orientation End Page." Or keep reading below and when you are ready to begin click on the link at the bottom to get started!
You will not have full access to our class website (Canvas) until the first day of the semester, Saturday, January 19 - I will send an email to your Los Rios gmail when the course opens. However you should complete this online orientation now and if you decide the class is not a good fit for you, then please officially drop the class with eServices so that another student can officially enroll.
During the first week of the semester you will spend all of your time getting acquainted with my class and expectations and will complete several activities to help you along the way.
This includes any student on the wait list or hoping to get onto the wait list. You should complete this online orientation as soon as possible to determine if the class will be a good fit for you. If you are on the wait list and decide that this is not a good fit then please officially drop so that another student can move into your spot on the wait list. Wait list students will receive priority over non-wait list students, when it comes to distributing permission numbers.
