Upon completion of the Polysomnography Technology Program, the student will:
Demonstrate the ability to comprehend, apply and evaluate clinical information relative to their role as PolysomnographyTechnologist.
Demonstrate the technical proficiency in all skills necessary to fulfill their role as a Polysomnography Technologist.
Demonstrate personal behaviors consistent with professional and employer expectations for a Polysomnography Technologist.
Upon completion of the Program, the graduate will:

Determine the need for therapeutic intervention.
Verify accuracy of data.
Predict the presence of sleep disorders from patient data.
Identify industry standards in polysomnographic equipment operation.
Psychomotor Domain:
Prepare patient for the testing protocol indicated by the patient’s history and physician orders.
Prepare equipment for the testing protocol indicated by the patient’s history and physician orders.
Solve artifact and instrument malfunction.
Demonstrate therapeutic interventions.
Verify the archival of data.
Operate polysomnographic equipment according to industry standards.

Outcomes Assessment
Southeast Community College annually evaluates the Polysomnography Technology Program, along with the Program Faculty and Program Advisory Committee, as it relates to program goals, effectiveness, student satisfaction, and student learning outcomes. The annual assessment plan, as well as the yearly results, are available to the student, general public and are available upon request from Program officials.
Curriculum
The program is a part-time program (6 credit hours per semester) lasting 2 semesters. Hands-on skills are taught in the first semester with demonstrated competence required before entering the clinical site. The second semester covers more detail about sleep disorders, scoring using the AASM Interscorer Reliability System, and clinical education.
