Ray Eames, SeaTac October 1979

Ray Eames inspired many when she attended an Eames Film Festival in Seattle.

You meet her plane. She's dressed in black,

yet giving out a look of light,

a heroine yet in a hero's image,

come to star here in a picture show.

She's come because you asked

to see her art. And here she stands:

the cordial curving of her lips,

the frank enchantment of her gaze,

the charm that draws you instant close,

her skill transfixing you just there.

You watch, a devotee enthralled,

and see in that one moment's flash

that to her it is all romance,

this sister-bride to genius --

the way her glance takes you right in,

reaching for glimmer with a lens

a man could drown in.

And right now you know her:

how soon she'll disappear with her artistic trace,

and still in beauty's ardor flame you

with rare pictures in your mind,

How with a radiant eye fix you

with a look that freshly shows,

her gift a box of glowing colored pencils.
