Appalachian Song - Dan Cunningham
Track 1
-song and track info
I Ain't No Pretty Boy No More acknowledges this unpleasant reality: We ain't as fresh looking as we used to be and eventually we all end up a little worse for wear
The setting takes us back a few years - a little time travelling
Verse 2 - the 1950's with the Korean "Police Action" (most usually called a war)
"retreating to the south" refers to the Allied forces fleeing south after the Chinese entered the fray
“I Iiked Ike” in the song refers to the Presidential election of 1956 - Dwight Eisenhower vs Adlai Stevenson
Verse 3 brings us closer to the present day in the 1980's or 90's - life in the barroom scene
"Logan" is Logan, West Virginia
here are the lyrics:
(verse1) After all those years away
Your letter came today
your picture - I nailed it to the door
But before you think of visiting
and how it used to be
Truth be told, no one can ignore
--I ain't no pretty boy no more
(verse 2) I took one in Korea
retreating to the south
they dragged me on a blanket thru the snow
I flirted with the nurses
I broke some hearts as well
But I wasn't quite so frisky as before
(bridge) I liked Ike in '56
but Bud liked Adali
and as you know, I never liked to fight
But beer, black eyes, and barstools
they wove their magic spell
we had the same discussion every night
(verse 3)
I thought myself a ladies man
but as the years went by
Times were tough but still I had to spend
I brought them drinks and compliments
they flashed their eyes and smiled
and leave with some hippie in the end
(v3 extension) When you get back to Logan
Here's what you got in store...
Its been a hard life.. and..
I ain't no pretty boy no more
-(tag) forget about those memories from the past you may adore
I ain't no pretty boy....
