I met Nydes in the summer of 2006 when he came to England to provide care for a child with arthrogryposis congenital multiplex (AMC) who was severely disabled with all 4 limbs affected by his condition. At the time I met him, he was unable to walk. Operative procedures were performed to obtain plantigrade foot positions in order to facilitate walking. During the pre and peri-operative period, Nydes provided significant care for the child during what was a traumatic time for him.
Most importantly in the post operative and later rehabilitation phases of the child’s treatment, Nydes was instrumental in helping us achieve a good outcome for the patient. Nydes worked alongside our physiotherapist at Great Ormond Street and did an excellent job of following the proscribed therapy regimes designed at maximizing function in both upper and lower limbs. He was actively involved in the splinting regime for all 4 limbs.
He showed great interest in and enthusiasm for the physiotherapy techniques that he was shown and demonstrated initiative in adapting them (when necessary) to enable the patient’s progress to be maintained over the 12 months after his surgery.
