During the weekend of 12 to 14 April, 2013, over 3000 people were involved in the annual KonTiki raft building adventure weekend organised by Scouts South Africa. According to the Scouts SA web site "For more than a century, SCOUTS South Africa, a volunteer organisation, has been dedicated to developing the youth of South Africa. By learning new skills and forming lasting friendships through the Scout programme, generations of Scouts have grown up to become some of our nation's most outstanding leaders." "The wide range of activities undertaken by Scouts across the country, in fact the world, make Scouting one of the enduring opportunities to offer younger members of the community a diverse range of healthy, outdoor activities" says Dr Peter Tobin of PTC. "Our elder daughter Sarah has been involved in the Scout movement for many years, and I can see the leadership skills she has developed as a consequence" says Peter and "I was delighted to be able to support both Sarah and her Troop during the weekend". The KonTiki weekend which took place on Homestead Lake in Eastern Gauteng, saw 1st Rosebank Scout Troop build two rafts which stayed on the lake for the full 24 hours of the event. Shown below are some of the Scouts dismantling one of the rafts after the 24 hour endurance test.
