As part of the ongoing PTC Academic Support Programme, Dr Peter Tobin took part in a skills development workshop held in Johannesburg in April 2013 for members of the Junior Officers Association (JOA) of the Reserve Force Council, a statutory body under the SA Government Department of Defence. The workshop was facilitated by Staff Sergeant Glenn Lambert, who provided the 16 delegates from the Army and Air Force University Reserve Training Programme (URTP) with an insight as to how to develop and improve presentation skills. According to the URTP web site  "The University Reserve Training Programme (URTP) is a programme whereby undergraduates and postgraduates enroll as Reserve Force (Part-time) members of the SANDF and undergo military training. Recruitment for the URTP takes place on the campuses of various identified Tertiary Institutions. On completion of the URTP members are then appointed as junior leaders in the SANDF. They may be utilized in the military in terms of their professional qualification or not, depending on their preference."
The half-day workshop was held at The View, home of the the Transvaal Scottish Regiment, and consisted of a number of topics designed to raise awareness of the key aspects of preparing and delivering successful presentations. "Dr Tobin's participation helped add depth to the workshop, in particular his ability to encourage the delegates to engage with each other as part of the overall learning environment" said Glenn Lambert, who has also delivered a similar workshop to delegates in the KwaZulu-Natal region.
