In response to the signing into law of the new Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (Act No. 4 of 2013) (POPI Act) in South Africa, PTC has launched a comprehensive POPI Compliance Assessment Tool (POPI-CAT). "POPI-CAT helps organisations to assess their current level of compliance with the new POPI Act. It provides not only the basis for a gap analysis, but includes a powerful and visual executive dashboard tool which will ensure high visibility of the current and planned status for compliance with the POPI Act" says Dr Peter Tobin of PTC, the developer of POPI-CAT. "Initial customer reaction has been highly favourable and there is already evidence emerging that compliance with the POPI Act can provide a source of competitive advantage by being seen to be leading not lagging in embracing the provisions of the new legislation". The POPI-CAT is accompanied by extensive supporting documentation, training materials and implementation tools. "PTC is confident that the adoption of POPI-CAT will significantly speed up the initial compliance activities and provide a basis for ongoing future periodic assessments" comments Dr Tobin, "as POPI-CAT combines the provisions of the POPI Act with the ISO15504 process maturity assessment approach as advocated by international governance organisations such as ISACA". POPI-CAT is available either directly from PTC or PTC affiliates such as IACT Africa .
