"The days of the frustration of slow and inconsistent ADSL connections may soon be an affordable (hopefully) thing of the past" says Dr Peter Tobin of PTC, "as today we became one of the first small business enterprises in South Africa to benefit from the Telkom FTTH pilot project". Where previously PTC and other small office / home office and domestic clients of Telkom were able to achieve only 1 to 4mbs (depending on the contract and other factors) it seems the new service holds out the promise of exceptional performance and reliability improvements. The Telkom trial promises a speed of up to 100mbs (equivalent to LAN speed) for download speed, plus 200gb of free data. "The first test produced simply awesome results" says Ingrid Tobin, co-owner of PTC, "and whether for business or domestic use, the new service represents a huge improvement".
