Over 90 members took part when Dr Peter Tobin of PTC facilitated a knowledge sharing session at the April 2013 ISACA Johannesburg branch meeting. In keeping with the interests of the ISACA members, topics they had identified at previous branch meetings were selected for discussion, including "Auditing: the value proposition"; "BYOD: opportunity or threat?"; "Cloud computing: risks and benefits" and "COBIT 5: implementation business case". The Knowledge Cafe lasted 60 minutes, during which participants had the chance to share their knowledge and experience in a series of group discussions. This culminated in a plenary feedback session which highlighted the key learning points on the five topics. Member feedback was very positive and Terence Fogarty who hosted the session on behalf of ISACA is now considering how to expand the use of the Knowledge Cafe approach to other ISACA branches in South Africa. "This type of participative knowledge exchange can be a powerful tool to help organisations improve performance" says Dr Tobin, "whether a professional body such as ISACA which aims to meet the needs of its members, or private or public sector organisations who are looking for innovative problem solving and synergistic approaches to maximising opportunities".
