A five page article entitled "Cut, shred, destroy" which was co-authored by Dr Peter Tobin of PTC has appeared in the February 2014 edition of My Office Magazine (MOM). MOM is the official magazine of the South African Association for Stationery, Home and Office Products (commonly known as Shop-SA). "The origins of the article were the impetus from one of our POPI Act compliance clients who realised that their efforts to be a leader among their peers in terms of getting ready for POPI compliance would be well supported by greater awareness among MOM's readership" says Dr Peter Tobin. "Our management team has worked closely with John Cato and Dr Peter Tobin on our POPI Act compliance preparation project" says Karmen Naicker, National Marketing Manager of RexelSA. "They have added significant value to our business and this article is a clear sign of the strength of the partnership we have with them".
The co-authors of the magazine article's POPI-related content were John Cato of IACT-Africa and Professor David Taylor, a seasoned ICT lawyer and POPI activist. Prof Taylor can also be heard in a series of POPI audio webcasts - POPIcasts if you click here. One of the key points made in the article was that appropriate shredding not only offers compliance with the destruction of personal information provisions of the POPI Act, but provides excellent defence against fraud and identity theft.
