The Big Fish School of Digital Filmmaking has announced an innovative programme which has attracted funding from the European Union.
Dr Peter Tobin of PTC was one of many stakeholders to attend the launch of the "Big Fish/EU programme for empowerment of youth through filmmaking". The launch which took place at the Big Fish offices in Johannesburg, South Africa, was addressed by Ambassador Roeland van de Geer, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of South Africa. Also speaking to the audience of over one hundred interested stakeholders was Professor Adam Habib, Vice-Chancellor of the University of the Witwatersrand. The Department of Arts and Culture of the SA Government is also supporting this initiative. "Having first worked with the team at Big Fish soon after their establishment five years ago, it is good to see the progress they have made in attracting both local and international funding for the important work that they do," says Dr Tobin, who also had the pleasure of seeing his elder daughter Sarah Tobin acting as part of the EU delegation at the launch event. "Sarah was appointed to an internship at the EU office in Pretoria earlier this year, and this event gave her a further opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of the excellent work that the EU Delegation has in progress in South Africa" adds Dr Tobin.Â
