POPI Act compliance high on agenda Mobile Government Summit 2014

Red Edge Solutions partnered with Dr Peter Tobin of PTC recently at the Mobile Government Summit held at the Hilton Hotel in Durban. The one-day conference organised by Govnet Communications saw representatives from all three spheres of government (national, provincial and municipal) as well as a number of interested parties and sponsors from industry explore issues related to improving service delivery through the use of mobile technology. "The importance of POPI Act compliance was highlighted by the fact that two sessions in a short conference lasting just a day were on the subject of the POPI Act and implications in terms of compliance and Mobile Government" says Dr Tobin. The Red Edge Solutions presentation session on POPI Act compliance and mobile solutions, facilitated by Dr Tobin, included a "snap survey" of the audience comprising ten key questions relating to mobility and data protection and privacy. "The low level of compliance reported by the audience indicates there is still a lot of work to do" says Etienne Herbst of Red Edge Solutions.
