Nelson Mandela Bay Business Chamber (NMBBC) members met in early February 2015 to discuss the implications of the Protection of Personal Information (POPI) Act. The event, facilitated by Dr Tobin of PTC in partnership with IACT-Africa entitled "POPI Act compliance: learning from experience" included a practical exercise in testing effective destruction of personal information as covered in the POPI Act (see picture below), as well as a quiz on the background to and provisions of the POPI Act.
After the event Suzanne Vermeulen, Events Coordinator at NMBBC said to Dr Tobin "Thanks so much for an entertaining and informative POPI session for our members. We would definitely recommend you as knowledgeable and engaging speakers on POPI". Jeremy Barton, the IACT-Africa Agent for the Eastern Cape was enthusiastic about the prospects for further POPI act discussions: "while Peter is in Port Elizabeth I have arranged for him to meet with the local media, as well as a number of business leaders and thought leaders who are keen to explore the implications of POPI act compliance".
