The Eastshore Music Educators that host the Festival each year feel it is important that students playing solos should have a qualified accompanist.
The accompanist provides professional support for the student during their performance as well as enriches the experience for the soloist and everyone listening. As students progress into the High School Festivals it becomes a requirement at Festival to have an accompanist. Students are eligible to be selected to compete at the W.M.E.A. State Contest as early as their 9th grade year. The earlier preparation of working with an accompanist during the middle school years ensures a higher level of success in performances in high school. The value of having an accompanist ensures that students are able to perform with the best possible support and understanding of tempo and style. 7th and 8th graders are expected to have an accompanist even though it is not absolutely required for participation.
Private Piano Accompanist
Please call and ask each accompanist about their rates and location to accompany your student. All fees should be paid directly to the Accompanist.
("Usually you arrange for 2-3 rehearsals prior to the performance and the performance as part of the total fee. Fees usually run from $80.00-$120. This should be considered a bargain since the accompanist spends time learning the music as well as time spent for the rehearsals and performance. Some may charge by the hour? Please provide the accompanist a copy of their part as soon as possible for preparation prior to the 1st scheduled rehearsal.")
