With students winning national competitions and every year earning positions in All-State and regional honor bands, Philip Dungey bases his teaching on solid music foundations and then seeks out opportunities for his students. His bands have won the award for Best Overall Middle School and Junior High Band at the Silverwood Music in the Parks Festival, performed in Disneyland six times, and won the Salmon Days Marching Band competition. In 2014, ensembles he coached placed second in two categories at the WIAA WMEA State Solo & Ensemble Competition, and his private students won the state solo competition in their category in 2014 and 2015.
Mr. Dungey has a Master's Degree from The University of Akron (OH) in Trumpet Performance and Music Education and a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from Wheaton College (IL). He has performed professionally in the trumpet section of the Auburn Symphony and the Pacific Northwest Ballet Orchestra, and serves as the Principal Trumpet of the Northwest Symphony Orchestra.
Mr. Dungey enjoys living in Issaquah with his musical family. Son Clayton is a tuba and computer science major at Biola in Los Angeles, daughter Natalie recently performed as trumpet soloist with Josh Groban and is now a sophomore at UCLA, and youngest, Faith, plays French Horn in Evergreen Philharmonic.
