SOIL AND WATER IN YOUR CLASSROOM!
Pamlico SWCD offers, at no cost to county residents, environmental educational activities for all ages that align with the NC Essential Education Standards related to Natural Resources.
To schedule a program OR reserve supplies, please contact us several weeks in advance of your desired date. Please be prepared with the following details:
Total number of people/students (per class)
Desired time and date
Specific topics you would like to address
COASTAL ENVIRTHON
Envirothon is a competition for high school and middle school teams to compete in natural resource knowledge. In preparation for the competition, students learn about our state’s natural resources including:
Aquatics
Forestry
Soils and Land Use
Wildlife
Current Environmental Issues
It is a great way to encourage students to learn more about the environment and have fun too!

Each year the NC Association of Soil and Water Conservation Districts host themed contests for students to participate in. The theme for this year (2026-2027) is Soil and Water, Yours for Life.
Pamlico Soil and Water Conservation District participates in the following contests:
Poster Contest (grades 3 - 5)
Essay Contest (grades 6 - 12)
Public Speaking Contest (grades 6 - 12)

Each year, the Pamlico Soil and Water Conservation District (SWCD) selects and sponsors one high school student to attend the Resource Conservation Workshop at N.C. State University in June.
The Resource Conservation Workshop is a weeklong workshop that provides hands on learning opportunities in a wide range of conservation topics. Students are housed at NC State University campus dormitories under the guidance of live-in counselors. Awards and scholarships can be won during the workshop.
This is an excellent opportunity for students to explore and gain insight into potential career paths in the field of conservation. Candidates are selected each year in May, so be sure to keep an eye out for the next time to apply!
