The Big D Fleur-De-Lis Project

The Big D Fleru-De-Lis project is the 3rd Quarter activity of our council centennial celebration. It's purpose is to rally the Scouting Community of the Circle Ten Council around the creation of the World's Largest Fleur-De-Lis using crushed aluminum cans. We intend to document the accomplishment and apply for the Guinness Book of World Records designation. Our calculations tell us it will take 1.5 - 2.0 million crushed cans to create a Fleur-De-Lis approximately 330 feet in diameter. All scouts and units may participate in this one of a kind event.

All collected cans will be recycled when the project is complete. The proceeds derived from the sale of the cans will benefit the following International Scouting initiatives:

  • International summer camp program
  • World Jamboree Scholarships
  • Circle Ten Contingents overseas
  • Scouting Exchange programs
  • World Scout Foundation

Here are some of the specifics:

Collecting Cans

  • Cans must be aluminum
  • Rinse and crush them long-ways
  • Bag the cans and label the bag with the “official Big D FDL Project” bag tags – go to http://www.circle10.org/sites/circle10.org/files/media/bag_tag_2.pdf
  • An early can turn will be held at Camp Wisdom on September 28th from 8 a.m. to 12 noon. Drop off those bags of cans and fill that space in your garage back up for November 9th. We will store these cans and relocate them to the event. Please email Greg Taylor, the Big D FDL staff advisor, to let us know you are coming. His email address is Greg.Taylor@scouting.org
