Reception & Dinner at the Algonquin Club

to honor Tufts University President Anthony P. Monaco

The Oxford and Cambridge Society is joining with the Algonquin Club of Boston to host a reception and dinner to welcome and honor Dr. Anthony (Tony) Monaco, Tufts University's 13th President, on Thursday evening, November 10, 2011. Please join us to meet and hear Tufts University's new top man, world-renowned geneticist and most recently Pro-Vice-Chancellor at the University of Oxford and Professorial Fellow of Merton College. Dr. Monaco was appointed Professor of Human Genetics in the Nuffield Department of Clinical Medicine at Oxford in 1997 and until 2007, served as Director of Oxford's Wellcome Trust Centre for Human Genetics, which focuses on identifying the biological basis of common human diseases using genetic, computational, structural and functional approaches. His research group has focused on the genetic basis of neurological and psychiatric disorders including autism, specific language impairment and dyslexia. His group's significant achievements include the first identification of a gene specifically involved in human speech and language.

Dr. Monaco will talk about his hopes and plans are for his Presidency, his experience balancing research, teaching and university administration, and his observations on the differences between American and British university education and campus life.

The cost of this event is $40 per person, and includes an elegant buffet dinner.
