Synod
A synod is usually bishops and the pope working to address church issues.
In 2021, Pope Francis asked that the people of God share their celebrations and concerns about our Roman Catholic church.
In 2022, many people shared the joys, obstacles and difficulties, areas of changes, and future hopes for our church.
In 2023, world-wide representatives of the people of God met with the bishops and Pope Francis to read and synthesize what was shared.
The synthesis report collected the sharing into 20 topics. The report is available on the Archdiocese of Agana website here.
In 2024, our task is to read & respond to one or more of the topics and share with a small group gathering. Each topic has three sections: Convergences - similar to a road map about the topic; Matters of Consideration; and Proposals - ideas on how to address the topic.
BEFORE the Gathering
Please [1] read the topic of interest; [2] prepare a one page response (helps to focus your thoughts); [3] prepare to share at the gathering (read your response or share from the heart - limit to only 4 minutes).
AT the Gathering
At the gathering, there will be three rounds of active listening: [1] read or speak about your response to the topic; [2] respond to what each person has shared; [3] collaborate on what was shared on paths for our church. This means taking time to read, reflect, and respond individually. Then taking time to share your response and to listen to others and to decide what to report.
In 2025, Parishioners are called to read, respond, collaborate on The Synod topics of interest to the island of Guam - the Archdiocese of Agana.
Please come to the Synod gathering at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church when called, when moved by the Holy Spirit, to provide your insight and inspiration so we can address the issues together.
