All of us in MRFHA have a strong interest in the beautiful river that is the heart of our community. Understanding the river and how it changes with time and environmental changes is important in understanding our relationship with the river. Forest Service Hydrologist Jamie Sheahan Alonso provides some guidance below on how to access some of the data available to help us to better understand the river.
OWRD: All OWRD data can be accessed through https://www.oregon.gov/owrd/access_Data/Pages/Data.aspx. I primarily use the Near Realtime Streamflow Data, the Miscellaneous Measurements Database and the Historical Streamflow and Lake Level Data. There are many other interesting data sets here too.
14088500 - METOLIUS R AT ALLINGHAM RS NR SISTERS, OR - Current flow is 209 cfs (12/11/2024)
The Quarterly discharge measurements for the Head of the Metolius are located within the Miscellaneous Measurements Database: https://apps.wrd.state.or.us/apps/sw/misc_measurements_view_only/. It is klunky. I usually search by selecting Deschutes Basin and then Find Metolius River. It will bring up 4 pages of measurements that are not all in the same place, but do have lat/long associated. The recent measurements all have a Location ID of JEFF000001, so you could just search that way too. The last measurement was on 9/25/2024 (57.7 cfs)
USGS: Metolius River at Grandview. Station 140191500: https://waterdata.usgs.gov/nwis/uv?site_no=14091500. This can also be accessed through OWRD: https://apps.wrd.state.or.us/apps/sw/hydro_near_real_time/display_hydro_graph.aspx?station_nbr=14091500
