Northfield School is a small liberal arts institution. Our primary purpose is the instruction of the inquisitive mind. However we are part of the community around us and, in a way, visitors on hallowed ground. As such, we must be respectful of not only each other but also the premises, the neighbors and the neighborhood.
Parking/Transportation
Each regular school day (Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, and Friday) will begin and end at the Northfield School campus. Students should be dropped off along the front of the school houses on the south side of the street. Drivers should access University from the west via Glenn Street and pull up as far as possible toward Vine Street to make room for a line of vehicles when necessary. Please do not enter the driveway of 1813 University and be mindful of congestion in deference to our neighbors and those accessing Friends University.
On Work Wednesdays, the day will begin at 8:00 a.m., with optional breakfast at 7:30 at 1803 W. University (the Hull House). At 10:00 a.m. students will be taken to various Work Wednesday locations. The day will end at Northfield at 3:40 p.m.
Students are not to ride with other students for any reason.

If you need to pick up a student for an appointment, do so at the school office. You may pull up temporarily in front of 1813 W. University (the Wight-Stanley House).
All students must sign out and back in at the office to leave campus for any purpose.
Study Halls
Study Halls will take place with supervision. Students scheduled for Study Halls are to remain in the Study Hall room, maximizing their time to complete homework.
Illegal Substances
There is no place in this atmosphere of trust for illegal and intoxicating substances. Possession of such substances is forbidden including in personal vehicles. Participation or ingestion of any of these illegal substances before, during or after school hours is forbidden.
Electronics
No cell phones are allowed on campus at any time. You can check in cell phones with Mrs. Alumbaugh at the beginning of the day. No laptops or tablets are to be at school, unless authorized by the school's faculty and administration. Laptops/tablets must then be checked in and out at the office, and used under direct faculty supervision or in the school office, under the supervision of Mrs. Alumbaugh and/or Mr. Graf. There is to be no individual student internet access at school. If a student needs access, he or she may ask a faculty member.
If a student is found in possession of any forbidden device, it will be taken away, and a $100 fee will be assessed for its retrieval.
Knives/Guns/Airsoft Guns
None of these are allowed at school or at any Work Wednesday location, at any time, in any form. If found, a $100 fee will be assessed for the item to be returned to your parents.
Dress Code
Our policy is encapsulated in one of our seven simple rules: be modest. Avoid drawing undue attention to yourself. During orientation, and throughout the year, boys will meet with male faculty members and girls with female faculty members to discuss this issue in greater detail. In general, we ask that boys have their shirts tucked in at all times, and that caps or hats not be worn indoors. For girls, we ask for longer shorts fairly close to the knee. Skirts should extend to the knee. Please also refrain from tight and revealing clothing. Leggings do not count as pants. If in question, please speak with Mrs. Segard. On Oxford Thursdays (every Thursday), students are expected to wear Sunday clothes (collared shirts, ties, slacks, and nice shoes for boys; dresses or skirts or slacks as the weather turns colder).
Lunch
Microwaves will be available in the lunch room on the main floor of 1803 W. University. No student is allowed to leave campus during lunch without the approval of administration. Beverages and Snacks No eating or drinking is allowed elsewhere in the houses unless authorized by a faculty member.
