Saturday, May 26th 2:30-5:30 PM Pandapas Pond, near Blacksburg
Meet in the lower parking lot.
We will have a walk to collect, and then sit down with our books at a picnic table to see what we can ID. This is part of the ongoing inventory we have been working on for this recreation area in the Jefferson National Forest.
Directions to Pandapas Pond: From I81 (most anywhere South, East, or West of Blacksburg, VA) Take exit 118 B towards Blacksburg and Christiansburg. You will be on 460W going towards Pearisburg and you will stay on it for 15 miles. As you come downhill you will see brown signs on your right for your LEFT turn into Pandapas. (If you pass a gas station on your right you have gone too far) When you pull in, don't park on your left, just continue down the gravel road for a half mile and park in the lower lot. You will see a kiosk and bench at the end--that is where we will meet.
Bring field guides, baskets, collecting bags, and/or tackle boxes (craft boxes) for small specimens, pocket knife, hand lens if you like them, camera--the usual. Sometimes there are gnats in this area and you might like to have bug spray, sunscreen, water.
Please confirm your wish to attend by emailing me at rebeccahrader@hotmail.com and let me get a contact number for you if I don't already have it.
