Cornhole! ... In October with New Friends of York County

The New Friends of York County group has declared Saturday, Oct. 10 Cornhole Day. Weather permitting, the event will be held from 11 a.m.  to 1 p.m. at Springettsbury Park, 2986 Pleasant Valley Road, York, at Pavilion Number 2 near the tennis courts.

Participants and spectators are asked to bring a chair, lunch or snack, drink, and mask. Wipes and gloves will be available and also disinfectant spray for those who would like to spray the bean bags before handling. Park restrooms will be available.

The event is open to members and those interested in learning more about the group and its activities.

New Friends of York County Group Plans Park Meeting in September

The New Friends of York County group invites area ladies to “get closer” while socially distanced during its first meeting of the year on Thursday, Sept. 17. Weather permitting, the meeting will begin at 6 p.m. at Springettsbury Park, 2986 Pleasant Valley Road, York. The evening’s program will be social. Attendees are asked to wear a mask and bring a packed meal, snack, utensils and drink plus a chair if desired. Pavilion Number 2 tables and seating will be available near the tennis courts, and park restrooms will be available. No RSVP is needed.

An outdoor event is also being planned at 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 10, weather permitting. Those who may be interested in attending are asked to hold that date on their calendar. More details will be announced later.

New Friends members – in normal times - typically participate monthly in a variety of interests including: Bunco, book club, ladies’ canasta, walking group, community service, craft night, dinner club, 500-bid, ladies’ luncheon, wine tasting, Mah Jongg, and more. Some of these activities have been suspended due to the pandemic, and others are proceeding via Zoom. Meetings are held on the third Thursday of each month. Prospective members are welcome to attend three events before committing to membership in the group.

The organization introduces women residents of the York, PA community to each other and offers them an opportunity for companionship and friendship through social events and interest group activities. The group is non-profit, non-commercial, non-political and non-discriminatory. The social group is open to any area woman who is looking for friendships in York County.

Need to get rid of some bric-a-brac, or did you get that "what-the-heck" gift for Christmas? If so, now is the time to pass it on to someone else. January is the New Friends annual White Elephant Gift Exchange. Bring that item wrapped to the meeting and partake in all the fun of seeing what people did not want or need anymore. Have you struggled to clean out the junk draw, organize a closet or tackle a forgotten room? October’s New Friends of York County meeting is for you! Alisa Shine of “Shine’s Organizing Solutions” will provide an overview of basic approaches to organizing. She will present tricks and tips for tackling a drawer, a closet or a room and answer all of your organizing questions. The meeting will be held on Thursday, Oct. 17.
